Full Job Description
The Opportunity

You'll embed with our partner firms and build production-grade agents that perform legal work with expert-level reasoning. This is a zero to one role. You'll sit with lawyers to learn how a matter actually moves, build the agents that take it over, and deploy them in production on live matters.

What you learn there comes back with you. You'll turn what only shows up inside a real firm into core product, so that the next partnership starts further along than the last one did. Over time you'll define how this function works at August: the patterns, the tooling, and the team that follows you into it.

What You'll Do
  • Own deployments end to end. Architect, build, and ship August into production at partner firms. You scope the integration, write the code, run the cutover, and stay on it until it holds. You decide what done means.
  • Build the integrations that touch everything. Ship the adapters, webhooks, and APIs that wire August into iManage, NetDocs, SharePoint, Outlook, and Word add-ins.
  • Sit with the lawyers. Learn how a matter actually moves before you automate any part of it. The gap between how a firm describes its process and how the work really happens is where these deployments succeed or fail.
  • Turn one off work into platform. Every deployment is raw material. Extract the patterns, harden them into configurable modules, SDKs, and internal tooling, and cut the time it takes the next firm to go live.
  • Debug live, in production, under pressure. When a migration stalls, a policy blocks a write, or a legacy system returns garbage, you trace it, root cause it, and fix it. Instrument everything so the next deployment doesn't hit the same wall.

About You
  • 1-2 years of production software engineering experience (full-stack or platform); you're a strong generalist who can navigate an unfamiliar codebase quickly, debug hairy integration issues, and ship reliable code under real constraints.
  • Strong command of TypeScript/JavaScript (React/Next.js) and at least one backend language (Python preferred); comfortable writing API clients, data transformation scripts, and lightweight services from scratch.
  • Engineering instincts that favor shipping: you default to the smallest working solution, add observability from day one, and treat each deployment as a learning loop - not a one-time project.
  • Thrives in high-ownership, fast-moving environments: you're energized by ambiguity, can context-switch between deep technical problems and high-level architecture discussions, and take pride in building things that actually work in the wild.

Benefits
  • Medical insurance coverage
  • Flexible PTO
  • Parental Leave
  • Centralized office equipment ordering for all employees
  • Equinox or Chelsea Piers gym membership
  • In-office perks: lunch, dinner, snacks, drinks, and more
  • Budget for intra-office travel
  • Team-building events
  • Relocation support to NYC (as needed)
