Job Duties

This position plans, coordinates, and manages the information management and disclosure activities of the Department of Professional and Occupational Regulation. The position ensures agency compliance with applicable records management and information dissemination laws, regulations, policies, and procedures. The FOIA Compliance Specialist identifies operational inefficiencies, develops feasible alternatives and implements changes/enhancements to agency processes, policies and procedures in order to maximize operational effectiveness.

Position provides analytical support on special studies and operational support to DPOR staff.

Hires, instructs, trains, supervises, and evaluates assigned staff and contract resources

Minimum Qualifications

- Direct working experience managing and coordinating responses to FOIA requests
- Demonstrated ability to supervise and manage staff
- Experience with public information management and disclosure, operations or data analysis, and MS Office computer applications.
- Knowledge of the Virginia Freedom of Information Act, Government Data Collection and Dissemination Practices Act, Protection of Social Security Numbers Act, and Virginia Public Records Act preferred.
- Understanding of data classification, privacy laws, confidentiality protections, and information security.
- Experience interpreting statutes, regulations, or policies.
- Experience conducting research, drafting correspondence, or preparing official responses.
- Experience working with public records, records management programs, or document governance.

Additional Considerations
• Certification in records management (e.g., CRM, CRA, or state RIM certification).
• Experience with electronic records management systems or FOIA tracking software.
• Experience in a government, regulatory, or compliance-focused environment.
• Training in information governance, data privacy, or legal research.
• Working knowledge of Microsoft Purview
