ESSENTIAL FUNCTIONS
•
Manage and oversee the laboratory staff and technical operations to ensure accurate and consistent testing procedures are adhered to.
•
Ensure quality control, safety, and records maintenance.
•
Implement and execute training curricula for each direct report. including required interpretation training for Cat certified interpreters
•
Document and execute lab policies and procedures necessary
•
Follow Caterpillar S.O.S Services Standardization Guide.
•
Maintain Key Performance Indicators including but not limited to turnaround times, quality objectives, monthly, quarterly, and annual department reports.
•
Monitor the operation and maintenance, and documentation of all lab instruments and test equipment.
•
Maintain necessary supplies to operate efficiently.
•
Manage instrument service contracts with instrument vendors
•
Assure lab instrumentation meets Caterpillar PTP data quality requirements
•
Manage digital transition from traditional lab operation to SOS powered by VisionLink (i.e. on-line sample registration, VisionLink data correlation, etc.) for both lab and customers
•
Manage implementation of future lab platforms (i.e. SOS 2.0)
•
Knowledge of "SOS powered by VisionLink " in relation to SOS lab software to assist customer migration to VisionLink
•
Establish and execute on operational budgets for revenue, expense and profit.
•
Resolve customer technical issues related to fluid analysis and other associated customer concerns.
•
Maintain working relationships within the dealership operational departments for the purposes of warranty, trends, and fluid component issues.
•
Train internal and external customers on sample processes such as; acquiring proper samples, understand sample results, use of on-line tools such as Visionlink and Cat inspect
•
Serve as a resource for marketing, communicating and selling the benefits of a structured S.O.S. Program
•
Maintain housekeeping practices.
•
Abide to all Caterpillar Contamination Control Guidelines.

QUALIFICATIONS/KNOWLEDGE/SKILL/ABILITY
•
Must have good problem solving skills to resolve fluid analysis data related issues
•
Must be able to quickly learn digital formats using VisionLink, SOS 2.0, and other current formats
•
Must have ability to interact and communicate with customers in order to effectively resolve customer issues
•
Must develop understanding fluid analysis interpretation; ability to interpret fluid analysis data desired
•
Must have the ability to effectively manage/operate the Oil Analysis Laboratory.
•
Must be a team-oriented player, and be adaptable to change.
•
Must have the ability to read and write in such a manner to appropriately communicate at all levels of business.
•
Must have the ability to establish, monitor and meet short and long-term goals.
•
Must have the ability to establish, monitor and meet department budgets.
•
Must have the ability to recognize equipment and tooling needs and budget accordingly.
•
Must have the ability to do company and customer presentations on items related to technical problems and oil sampling.
•
Must have had some exposure to processes and procedures used in the Oil Analysis Laboratory.
PHYSICAL/ENVIRONMENTAL REQUIREMENTS
•
Material and equipment directly used: Telephone systems and equipment. Company computer systems, programs and equipment. Caterpillar computer systems, programs and equipment.
•
Working hours are typically 8 hours per day, 5 days per week, but additional hours could be required depending on circumstance.
•
Ability to walk up and down stairs.
•
Ability to sit or stand 5 - 7 hours a day.
•
Ability to travel throughout the company territory.
•
Professional dress is required.
