Position Title: Flight Manager Instructor (FMI) - Full-Time
Location: Scott Air Force Base, IL
Summary The
Flight Manager Instructor (FMI) is responsible for developing and delivering training programs that prepare Flight Management personnel for operational missions. This role supports all phases of training, including initial qualification, mission qualification, upgrade training, and recurring instruction. The FMI ensures training aligns with Air Force directives, FAA requirements, and operational standards while integrating real-world mission scenarios into course delivery.
Responsibilities - Develop, maintain, and deliver FM training programs, including:
- Pipeline Training
- Initial Mission Qualification Training (MQT)
- Mission Qualification On-the-Job Training (OJT)
- Upgrade Training (Evaluator, Instructor, Quality Check, Air Traffic Management Coordinator)
- Periodic and Just-in-Time (JIT)/differences training
- Produce and update courseware, lesson plans, and scenario-based exercises in accordance with AFMANs, MAJCOM directives, and FAA requirements
- Provide classroom instruction, hands-on system training, and operational scenario execution
- Train across all Mission Design Series (MDS) aircraft, including C-5, C-17, KC-135, KC-10, KC-46, C-130, C-130J, C-21
- Instruct on TACC weapon systems and platforms, including GDSS 2, MAFPS, IMR, ADP, and mission tracking systems
- Evaluate student performance and provide remediation to ensure certification standards are met
- Maintain training records and ensure compliance with qualification requirements
- Participate in and observe real-world shift operations at least twice annually to maintain curriculum relevance
- Integrate operational mission execution into training delivery
- Maintain proficiency across all FM systems and platforms
- Support multi-shift training operations as required
RequirementsEducation Requirement - High school diploma or equivalent required; bachelor's degree in aviation, aeronautics, or a related field preferred
Experience Requirement (Operational & Instructional) - Minimum of 10 years of Flight Management or air mobility operations experience
- Certified 618th AOC Flight Management Specialist in accordance with AFMAN 11-255
- Experience planning, managing, and evaluating Air Force training programs
- AOC C2 contract support experience
- Military instructor aircrew background with familiarity in airlift and aerial refueling operations
- Demonstrated ability to instruct complex technical material
Experience Requirement (Tools & Systems) - Proficiency in Flight Management systems, including:
- GDSS 2 (Global Decision Support System)
- MAFPS (Mobility Air Forces Planning System)
- IMR (Integrated Mission Resource)
- ADP (Automated Data Processing systems)
- Mission tracking systems
- Strong knowledge of FM operational tools, systems, and procedures
- Working knowledge of Instructional Systems Design (ISD) methodology
Experience Requirement (Training Development & Soft Skills) - Proven ability to develop and maintain adaptive courseware and training materials
- Strong verbal and written communication skills
- Excellent instructional and facilitation abilities
- Strong organizational and time management skills
- Ability to mentor and evaluate trainees in a high-tempo operational environment
- Ability to adapt instruction to meet varying experience levels
Work Requirement - This is a full-time, on-site position located at Scott Air Force Base, IL
- Must be able to work across multiple shifts to support training requirements
- Must be able to operate in a structured government/military training environment
Physical Requirement - Ability to sit or stand for extended periods during instruction and system operation
- Ability to use standard office and training equipment
- Ability to access training systems and operational workspaces as required
