Full Job Description
Job Description:
Senior BMC Firmware Engineer (US Citizenship required) (Job Title to be reviewed with HR. This position is for 8-12 years experience)
Responsibilities
- Own the design, development, and validation of BMC firmware for server
platforms end to end, translating hardware and product requirements into
robust, maintainable solutions.
- Define firmware architecture and interfaces on firmware (embedded
Linux) stack in C/C++ and Python; make and document key technical decisions.
- Lead new board and silicon-vendor bring-up: enable hardware interfaces and
sensors (I2C/I3C, PECI, SPI, GPIO, PWM/TACH, JTAG) and drive platform
power-on and stabilization.
- Design and maintain manageability interfaces (Redfish, IPMI) and
security/boot features (secure boot, attestation, CVE remediation).
- Diagnose and resolve the most complex, cross-layer, and hard-to-reproduce
firmware and hardware issues (kernel, drivers, services, application).
- Establish and enforce engineering quality: unit/integration testing, CI, code
review standards, and release readiness.
- Mentor junior and mid-level engineers; provide technical guidance and grow
team capability.
- Lead and maintain firmware documentation (architecture, design, interface,
and release notes).
- Collaborate with and influence hardware, BIOS, silicon-vendor, QA, and
product teams; represent firmware in cross-functional and customer
discussions.
Qualifications
- Bachelor's / Master's in CE/EE/CS (or equivalent) with 6+ years of
embedded/firmware development, including shipped BMC or comparable
embedded-Linux products.
- Strong proficiency in C/C++ and Python, with deep embedded Linux internals
(kernel, drivers, U-Boot, systemd, D-Bus).
- Proven experience with device drivers, board bring-up, and hardware debug
tools (oscilloscope/logic analyzer, JTAG).
- Hands-on experience with OpenBMC / Yocto / BitBake and Git-based workflows.
- Track record of owning features from architecture through release and of
debugging complex, multi-component issues.
Nice to Have
- Redfish / DMTF, PLDM / MCTP / SPDM, secure boot / attestation, and manageability
standards.
- Upstream / open-source contributions and community engagement.
- Experience with silicon-vendor SDK integration, performance/power tuning, and
security hardening.
Attributes
- Technical leadership, sound judgment, and strong ownership.
- Excellent communication and mentoring skills; able to align stakeholders and
drive decisions.
