DescriptionThe City of Fairfield is announcing that a Civil Service exam will be given through the National Testing Network. This test will be used as the initial step to establish an Eligibility List for the position of Firefighter/Paramedic. All testing with the National Testing Network (NTN) must be completed by the application closing date. The exam provided by the National Testing Network will be used as the Civil Service exam.

*You must register/schedule to take your online test a minimum of 24 hours in advance of your test date and time. Examples of DutiesThis position is responsible for performing a wide variety of tasks related to protecting life and property by performing fire suppression and providing emergency medical services; participating in fire station and equipment maintenance; engaging in training and exercise programs as directed; and other related tasks as required.
Typical QualificationsQualifications include: 18 years old on or prior to the date of examination and not eligible for original appointment to Fairfield Department on or after age 36. The City will accept full-time appointments to the Fire Department for persons up to age 41 who are currently full-time Firefighter/Paramedics with another department and currently members of the Ohio Police and Fire Pension Fund. Must have a valid driver's license; high school diploma/GED; ability to perform the essential functions of the position;
MUST possess certification for Ohio Firefighter II and a minimum of Ohio EMT-B by test date and within one year of employment must reside in Butler County, Hamilton County or any contiguous county. Paramedic certification preferred.
Those who are already certified as an Ohio Paramedic and Ohio Firefighter II are eligible to receive a sign on bonus and to have an additional 10% added to their passing NTN score on the Eligibility List. The $5,000 sign on bonus will be paid upon successful completion of the probationary period. Proof of certifications must be submitted by the application deadline. If not already certified as a Paramedic, must obtain certification within three years.Current part-time Firefighter/EMT employees of the City of Fairfield will have additional credit added to their passing score, based on years of service.
Those who achieve a passing score according to National Testing Network on the written test, while passing all sections of the test, must subsequently pass the following to be eligible for appointment: physical agility test; medical physical (including drug screen) and psychological exam; background check.
