Full Job Description
Location: Cambridge, MA

Compensation: $170,000 - $220,000 base (bonus + equity commensurate with experience)

The Role

We're looking for a FinOps Engineer to join our team and build our infrastructure cost optimization practice from the ground up. You'll own cloud cost governance across AWS, Azure, GCP, and our on-premises environments, partnering closely with our Engineering, Platform, and US-based Finance teams to turn infrastructure spend into a source of strategic advantage rather than a line item to manage.

This is an opportunity to define how Blitzy thinks about cost as we scale - from forecasting and tagging standards to the cost allocation platform that powers our unit economics.

What Success Looks Like
  • Cloud spend across AWS, Azure, GCP, and on-prem is actively optimized, with clear, ongoing reductions that don't compromise reliability or performance.
  • A company-wide FinOps practice is in place - governance, forecasting, budgeting, and tagging standards that engineering and finance both trust.
  • Finance can reliably attribute infrastructure costs to products, services, and customers, giving leadership accurate COGS reporting and unit economics.
  • Dashboards and data pipelines give engineering and finance one shared, trusted view of infrastructure costs across every cloud provider.
  • Cost considerations are built into how Engineering and Platform teams design infrastructure, run Kubernetes, and make architecture decisions - not bolted on after the fact.

Areas of Ownership
  • Own infrastructure cost optimization across AWS, Azure, GCP, and our on-premises environments by identifying opportunities to reduce spend while maintaining reliability and performance.
  • Build and own a company-wide FinOps practice, including cloud cost governance, forecasting, budgeting, tagging standards, and executive reporting.
  • Partner with Finance to design and implement a cost allocation platform that accurately attributes infrastructure costs to products, services, and customers, enabling COGS reporting and unit economics.
  • Develop dashboards, analytics, and data pipelines that consolidate billing and operational data from multiple cloud providers, giving engineering and finance a single source of truth for infrastructure costs.
  • Work closely with Engineering and Platform teams to incorporate cost optimization into infrastructure design, Kubernetes operations, and cloud architecture, ensuring cost is considered alongside scalability, security, and reliability.

Required Experience
  • 4+ years of experience in FinOps, cloud cost optimization, or a related infrastructure/finance-facing engineering role
  • Hands-on experience managing cost across at least two major cloud providers (AWS, Azure, GCP)
  • Working knowledge of Kubernetes cost management and how workload design decisions impact spend
  • Experience building dashboards and data pipelines that consolidate multi-source billing and usage data
  • Familiarity with FinOps frameworks and practices - tagging governance, forecasting, budgeting, and chargeback/showback models
  • Strong written and verbal communication skills, with the ability to work across time zones and maintain overlap with our US-based Finance and Engineering teams

What Makes You Stand Out
  • FinOps Certified Practitioner or equivalent certification
  • Experience with cloud cost management platforms (e.g., CloudHealth, Cloudability, Kubecost, native cloud cost tools)
  • Background building or scaling a cost allocation model tied to COGS or unit economics reporting
  • Experience partnering directly with Finance teams, not just Engineering
  • Prior experience at a fast-growing startup managing multi-cloud, multi-environment infrastructure

What Makes This Role Different

As our first FinOps hire, you'll define the practice company-wide, with direct visibility into how infrastructure spend connects to Blitzy's unit economics and executive reporting - all while working in close, overlapping hours with our US-based Finance and Engineering teams.
