Key Responsibilities
The FinOps Engineer/Analyst is a customer-facing, consulting-level role focused on AWS implementation and Federal financial oversight.
Strategy & Governance
- Establish Policies: Define and oversee FinOps policies and best practices.
- Strategic Planning: Align technical solutions with customer business needs and requirements.
- Architectural Oversight: Act as a technical advisor to ensure new and existing designs are cost-effective.
- Remediation: Identify architectural waste and provide documented remediation plans.
Financial Management & Operations
- Budgeting: Oversee AWS budgeting, including multi-year forecasts and CLIN oversight.
- Cost Optimization: Strategize and implement cost-saving measures across the hybrid cloud environment.
- Reporting: Create actionable, data-driven reports and brief stakeholders at executive and engineering levels.
- Tagging Strategy: Develop and support cloud cost tagging strategies for better accountability.
Technical Administration
- AWS Tooling: Utilize AWS Cost Explorer, Resource Groups, Tag Editor, and AWS Billing.
- Master Payer Management: Oversee and support AWS Master Payer account management.
- Contract Support: Coordinate with Federal supervisors on cloud utility contracts, monthly invoices, and acquisition support.
Role Requirements
- Education: Bachelor's degree required.
- Experience: 5-10 years of direct relevant experience.
- FinOps Expertise: Deep understanding of FinOps principles and implementation.
- Federal Budgeting: Expertise in Federal financial management, specifically the PPBE process.
- Cloud Expertise: Strong background in AWS architecture, pricing models, and billing structures.
- Migration Experience: Proven track record with on-prem to cloud migrations and hybrid system oversight.
- Certifications: FinOps Foundation certification AND AWS certification.
- Compliance: Ability to pass and maintain a Federal background investigation for U.S. Government contracts.
Preferred Qualifiers
- STEM Degree: Bachelor's degree in a Science, Technology, Engineering, or Math field.
- Location: Residing in the greater Washington D.C., Maryland, or Virginia (DMV) area.
- Agency Experience: Previous experience supporting NOAA or NASA programs.
Additional Information
- Work Arrangement: Hybrid-remote. Requires at least two days per week on-site at Goddard Space Flight Center (GSFC) in Greenbelt, MD.
- Travel: Occasional travel (approximately 10%) to Melbourne, FL.

- In compliance with Colorado's Equal Pay for Equal Work Act, the salary range for this role is $160,000 - $220,000
