Full Job Description
Position Description:

Reporting to the Manager, Financial Reporting, the Financial Reporting Analyst works closely with the Financial Reporting and Finance Operations teams to assist in managing financial operations, ensuring accuracy, completeness and compliance. Works cross-functionally to drive various finance initiatives, performs complex reconciliations and implements process improvements. In addition, this role will support the Financial Reporting team with the accurate and timely close of the month end cycle.

This is a full-time onsite role located in our office in Vancouver, BC.

Job Responsibilities:

  • Reviews, analyzes and approve working papers, journal entries, and account reconciliations ensuring completeness, accuracy, and compliance with accounting policies
  • Leads and participates in financial cleanup projects, including historical account reconciliations, dry dock accrual reviews, and correction of aged balances
  • Partners with cross-functional teams to identify, investigate, and resolve reconciling items tied to legacy accounting entries and balances
  • Reviews journal entries and prepares analysis related to all major financial statement captions.
  • Reviews and manages annual and quarterly financial statements for stand-alone entities
  • Assists in resolving complex accounting reconciliations
  • Assists with review, analysis, and documentation of accounting policies and procedures
  • Assists with finance transformation projects to optimize accuracy and timeliness of the financial close and reporting processes by leveraging best practices and technology
  • May assist with preparation and review of the company's consolidated financial statements and MD&A
  • Proactively manages risk by identifying potential issues and implementing effective solutions to enhance business unit performance and compliance with internal control policies
  • Analyzes end-to-end process performance, by understanding workflow designs and translating complex data sets into strategic insights to drive process optimization
  • Provides training to new/ junior staff as needed


Requirements:

  • Bachelor's Degree in Commerce, Accounting, Management, or equivalent from a recognized institution
  • A recognized professional accounting designation, or working towards a recognized professional accounting designation (e.g. CPA)
  • Minimum 3 years experience supporting timely and accurate GL close within an accounting function and/or financial statement preparation
  • Experience with foreign currency transactions and intercompany transactions
  • Understands and has applied internal controls and process redevelopment
  • Excellent working knowledge of MS Office applications specifically Excel and Word
  • Strong communication skills to lead and coach less experienced staff members
  • Ability to work under pressure with strict deadlines
  • Strong organizational skills and ability to multitask
  • Strong attention to detail
  • Strong analytical skills


Additional Desired Qualifications:

  • Experience with SOX requirements.
  • Experience with multiple office organization.
  • Hands-on experience with NetSuite or other financial systems software.


Compensation and Benefits Package:

Seaspan's total compensation is based on our pay-for-performance philosophy that rewards team members who deliver on and demonstrate our high-performance culture. The hiring range for this position is $85,000 - $95,000 CAD per annum. The exact base salary offered will be commensurate with the incumbent's experience, job-related skills and knowledge, and internal pay equity.
