Full Job Description
The Department of Financial Services is seeking candidates for the position of Financial Data Analyst in the Entity Risk Management Unit (ERM). This position supports the Department's oversight of supervised entities through financial data analysis, risk assessment, application review, reporting, research, and cross-functional collaboration. Duties include, but are not limited to, the following: • Conducts quantitative and financial data analysis to support entity risk assessments, regulatory reviews, and supervisory decision-making; • Analyzes financial and economic information from internal and external sources and identify trends, anomalies, emerging risks, and areas requiring further review; • Assists in the development and maintenance of dashboards, reports, analytical tools, and management information used by ERM and other business units; • Supports a varied applications caseload, including risk tracking, and analysis of risk and control, and other applications submitted by supervised entities; • Supports business units in conducting risk management reviews and preparing materials and presentations for executive management and external stakeholders; • Assists the ERM supervisor with organizational, analytical, and strategic projects, including research, data analysis, reporting, and process improvements; • Interacts with staff across Department business units and executive management regarding case-specific financial, risk, and regulatory matters; • Participates in meetings with various Department units and provides analytical input and guidance on matters relevant to ERM; • Conducts research on financial, economic, industry, and regulatory data, utilizing internal Department resources and external data sources; • Prepares and presents research findings, financial analyses, and risk-related observations to the ERM supervisor and senior management; • Monitors industry trends, emerging risks, analytical methodologies, and regulatory best practices relevant to supervised entities; • Communicates effectively with senior and executive management, both internally and externally with regulated entities, through verbal briefings, written memoranda, analytical reports, and formal presentations; • Follows established procedures and completes assigned work programs in accordance with Departmental policies, regulatory requirements, and supervisory standards; • Manages multiple assignments and competing priorities while maintaining accuracy, quality, and adherence to established deadlines; and • Performs other duties and special projects as assigned. Minimum Qualifications Preferred Qualifications • At least three years of experience in financial data analysis, financial analysis, risk analytics, economic analysis, or a related field. • Bachelor's or advanced degree in Finance, Economics, Statistics, Mathematics, Computer Science, Data Science, Financial Engineering, or a related quantitative discipline, or equivalent relevant experience. • Experience in applying statistical, mathematical, or quantitative analytical techniques to financial or economic data. • Experience with programming or statistical analysis tools, including Python, R, SAS, SQL, or similar statistical software. • Strong analytical, quantitative, organizational, and problem-solving skills. • Strong written communication skills, including the ability to prepare concise, well-structured reports, memoranda, analytical summaries, and other formal documentation for internal and external audiences. Appointment Method: Candidates must meet the minimum qualifications listed below in order to be eligible for appointment. Non-Competitive: Seven years of experience* in data visualization, and statistical models and data mining tools. *Substitution: Associate degree may substitute for two years of specialized experience; bachelor's degree may substitute for four years of specialized experience; master's degree may substitute for five years of specialized experience; J.D. may substitute for six years of specialized experience Additional Comments Please note that a change in negotiating unit may affect your salary, insurance and other benefits. Salary: The starting salary for this position is $86,681 with periodic increases up to $109,650 Positions located within the New York City metropolitan area, as well as Suffolk, Nassau, Rockland, and Westchester Counties, are also eligible to receive an additional $4,000 annual downstate adjustment.
