Job Description

The GFCC Risk Assessment Team is responsible for performing enterprise-wide financial crimes risk assessments and reporting, and facilitates alignment across GFCC and broader stakeholder teams in managing and overseeing the financial crimes compliance programs that it owns, which include the Money Laundering, Sanctions, and Bribery & Corruption risk assessments, financial crimes threat assessments, risk and control self-assessments ("RCSAs"), and program health reporting to senior management and relevant committees.

As GFCC embarks on a modernization journey to enhance its platform capabilities, as the enterprise undergoes an uplift to the Operational Risk Management framework, and as the expectations of our regulators continue to grow, we need to ensure that our Financial Crimes program continues to be effective and efficient globally. The successful candidate will support execution of the RCSA process, which involves identifying, assessing, aggregating, mitigating, and reporting on operational and compliance risks that impact GFCC processes globally. The candidate will partner with GFCC process owners to proactively identify risks, strengthen and thoroughly document the control environment, coordinate control testing, and maintain reporting to accurately and transparently monitor the strength of the control environment. They will be organized, collaborative, and adaptable to thrive in a changing environment.

Responsibilities

  • Support the development of GFCC RCSA(s) under the new Operational Risk Management framework.
  • Draft new controls, update existing controls, and support control mapping activities as legal requirements, processes, and frameworks change, and as new products are launched.
  • Coordinate timely and accurate testing of financial crimes controls while evaluating testing results, identifying control gaps, and driving timely resolution of observations.
  • Coordinate effective challenge of 1st Line of Defense Risk & Control Self-Assessments, including the accuracy and completeness of financial crimes risk and control mappings, and risk impact and likelihood assessments.
  • Draft concise communications and conduct training regarding the RCSA framework that clearly articulate risks, control considerations, and recommendations, to support ongoing maintenance and enhancements
  • Map issues, events, testing, and audit or regulatory findings to controls, as appropriate
  • Prepare leadership and committee reporting that synthesizes complex information into clear risk insights, key themes, and actionable recommendations regarding the strength of the GFCC control environment.
  • Assist with audit and regulatory exam requests.
  • Support strategic initiatives and special projects requiring analytical problem-solving, cross-functional collaboration, and independent execution.

Qualifications

  • Two years of experience in a compliance, risk management, audit, legal, or control management role.
  • Demonstrated ability to synthesize complex information into concise, accurate, and actionable written and verbal communications tailored to different audiences.
  • Demonstrated ownership, follow-through, sound judgment, and ability to independently manage multiple competing priorities in a fast-paced environment.
  • Strong collaboration and interpersonal skills with ability to motivate and engage stakeholders.
  • Demonstrated analytical curiosity with the ability to research unfamiliar topics, apply regulatory and policy requirements, and independently solve problems with limited direction.
  • Ability to interpret and apply policies, standards, procedures, and regulatory requirements to new or evolving business situations.
  • Strong skills with Microsoft Office products including Excel and PowerPoint.
  • Experience performing risk and control assessments, developing controls, testing controls, and/or working knowledge of Enterprise Governance, Risk and Compliance tools (e.g., ServiceNow, Archer, OpenPages) is preferred.
  • Working knowledge of Anti-Money Laundering (AML), Sanctions, and/or Anti-Corruption obligations and controls is preferred.
  • Bachelor's degree required; advanced degree preferred.

Employment eligibility to work with American Express in the United States is required as the company will not pursue visa sponsorship for these positions.
