Your Role on the TeamProvides advanced financial analysis for a large and complex Cancer Center research portfolio with a multi-fund budget exceeding $35M, including federal, state, and philanthropic resources. Independently develops projections, monitors performance, and conducts highly complex analyses to support strategic decision-making, using advanced professional concepts to resolve issues and exercising judgment in selecting methods, techniques, and evaluation criteria.
Applies expert knowledge of fund management, forecasting, and compliance to ensure effective resource allocation and proper stewardship of funds, serving as a key resource to the Assistant Director of Finance with broad internal and external contacts.
What It Takes to be SuccessfulRequired:- Advanced knowledge of finance policies, practices, and systems.
- Ability to identify, collect, and analyze information from multiple sources.
- Advanced ability to effectively present complex finance related information both verbally and in writing in a clear and concise manner.
- In depth ability to use multiple spreadsheet and database software tools to gather information for specialized, complex financial analysis, fiscal management, and financial reports. Expertise in MS Excel, Word, Outlook.
- Advanced interpersonal skills at all levels within the organization; advanced service orientation and critical thinking skills; and attention to detail. In depth ability to use organizational skills to multi-task in a high volume environment.
- Ability to adapt to changing priorities and within a deadline-driven structure.
- Ability to function as a member of a team.
- Demonstrated ability to work independently in financial analysis and problem resolution and in following through on assignments with minimal direction
- High level of integrity and honesty in maintaining confidentiality
- Skill in recordkeeping to maintain detailed records of expenditures
- Advanced degree in related area and / or equivalent experience / training
- 7-9 years of experience in developing, implementing and controlling budgets from multiple funding sources with direct experience in financial management of Federal, State and industry-sponsored contracts and grants
Preferred:- Advanced knowledge and understanding of internal control practices and their impact on protecting University resources.
- Advanced knowledge of University of California contracts and grants accounting and management principles and procedures, finance policies, practices, and systems
- Proficient in use of UCI's financial systems including KFS, SOM Decision Support Services (DSS), Decision Support, DWQuery, PI Report
- Experience managing finances on large, multi-component grants
- Experience working in a multidisciplinary matrixed work environment
- Familiarity with Cancer Center Support Grant guidelines
Special Conditions:- May require after-hours and weekend work hours on deadline-driven projects
- Requires occasional travel to and between Orange and Irvine Campuses
