Full Job Description
What We're Looking For

MGA is looking for a Finance Manager to take ownership of our financial operations, bringing rigour, insight, and leadership to how we plan, track, and report across the studio.

This is a senior, hands-on role that goes well beyond traditional accounting. You'll lead our financial function end-to-end: overseeing project finance, managing day-to-day accounting operations, strengthening systems and internal controls, and serving as a key strategic partner to the principals and senior leadership. You'll directly supervise an Accountant responsible for bookkeeping and payroll, and you'll bring clarity to complex financial information that helps the whole team make better, faster decisions.
What You'll Get Up To
Financial Leadership & Strategic Insight
  • Serve as the financial thought partner to Studio Leads and senior leadership, providing clear analysis to support key business decisions
  • Lead the development and maintenance of studio-wide budgets and financial forecasts
  • Identify financial risks, trends, and opportunities...and translate them into actionable recommendations
  • Prepare and present monthly financial reporting, including project performance, COGS, and cash flow forecasting
  • Support the preparation of annual financial statements for MGA
  • Ensure compliance with applicable regulatory and tax requirements
Project Financial Performance
  • Partner with Project Managers to monitor project budgets, track costs, and assess financial performance
  • Identify variances and risks, and provide clear insights to support project-level decision-making
  • Ensure project financial data is accurate, complete, and current across all systems
  • Investigate and resolve discrepancies to maintain the integrity of financial information
Systems Optimization & Reporting
  • Lead the optimization and ongoing use of CMAP to support project profitability, cash flow, and reporting
  • Improve data quality and completeness to enable reliable analytics and efficient invoicing
  • Support senior leadership in leveraging CMAP's resourcing tools to plan and manage project teams
  • Streamline workflows and reduce administrative burden through better system use
Billing, Cash Flow & Financial Operations
  • Oversee project billing to ensure timely, accurate invoicing aligned with project progress and contract terms
  • Review unbilled costs and outstanding invoices monthly to maximize revenue and collection
  • Monitor expenses, timesheets, and approvals to support accurate forecasting
  • Review sub-consultant invoices for accuracy, compliance, and budget alignment
  • Reconcile project accounts to ensure consistency and accuracy
Operational Oversight
  • Lead day-to-day accounting operations, including accounts payable, accounts receivable, and payroll, executed through a direct report Accountant
  • Review and approve bookkeeping, payroll, and monthly reconciliations prepared by the Accountant for accuracy and completeness
  • Maintain and strengthen internal controls to protect company assets and ensure data integrity
  • Identify and implement process improvements across financial and project management systems
  • Directly supervise and support an Accountant responsible for bookkeeping and payroll, providing guidance, review, and mentorship
What You Bring

  • 7+ years of progressive experience in finance or accounting, ideally within architecture, engineering, or professional services
  • Bachelor's degree in Accounting, Finance, Commerce, or a related field, or equivalent experience
  • CPA designation is an asset
  • Strong understanding of project-based financial management, including budgeting, forecasting, and billing
  • Experience with project management and financial systems; CMAP experience is an asset
  • Ability to work with complex data and translate it into clear, useful insights for non-financial audiences
  • High attention to detail with a strong commitment to accuracy and data integrity
  • Confidence leading financial conversations with senior stakeholders and influencing business decisions
  • Proactive, systems-oriented mindset with a track record of improving processes and driving change
  • Experience supervising or mentoring accounting staff; comfort reviewing bookkeeping and payroll work for accuracy and completeness
Why This Role Matters

This is a pivotal role in how MGA operates. As Finance Manager, you'll bring structure and clarity to a complex, project-driven studio, enabling better decisions, healthier project margins, and stronger outcomes across the business. You'll have real influence over how we run, and real ownership over the financial health of the studio.
