Responsibilities

ABOUT THE OPPORTUNITY:

McDougall Energy is looking for a strategic thinking self-starter with strong attention to detail as a Finance Manager. Reporting to the Director of Finance (Accounting & Controls), the Finance Manager is responsible for leading key finance compliance activities related to inventory accounting, internal controls, and commodity tax.

Key Responsibilities:

Inventory Accounting & Reconciliations
  • Ensure inventory-related internal controls are designed and operated effectively.
  • Investigate, report on, and establish corrective action for monthly inventory variances.
  • Provide education and visibility to inventory adjustments to ensure aligned with Company Policy.
  • Prepare and maintain detailed variance analysis and explanations to support month-end and year-end financial reporting.
  • Develop and maintain inventory reconciliation procedures and support documentation.
  • Monthly Review of inventory valuation and inventory valuation testing.
  • Identify control gaps and recommend improvements to strengthen the overall control environment.
  • Document and maintain process narratives, and related procedures.

Audit, Regulatory & Compliance Support
  • Prepare working papers and supporting schedules.
  • Prepare selected fuel tax returns and other commodity tax filings and ensure compliance with applicable federal and provincial tax regulations.
  • Reconcile tax filings to inventory movements, sales records, and accounting records.
  • Monitor regulatory changes and assess impacts on business operations and compliance processes.
  • Respond to information requests from auditors and other government agencies.
  • Support financial statement audit(s) and internal control reviews

Continuous Improvement
  • Develop meaningful KPI reporting and inventory performance metrics.
  • Support strategic initiatives focused on standardization, automation, and operational excellence.


ABOUT YOU:
  • Chartered Professional Accountant (CPA) designation required or equivalent
  • Bachelor's degree in Accounting, Finance, Commerce, or related field.
  • 5-7 years of progressive accounting experience.
  • Experience with inventory accounting, inventory controls, or commodity accounting preferred.
  • Experience preparing and reconciling fuel taxes, excise taxes, or other regulatory compliance filings considered a strong asset.
  • Experience supporting external audits, regulatory and compliance audits
  • Experience participating in ERP implementations or system transformation projects is highly desirable.
  • Demonstrated ability to establish and maintain successful working relationships
