Full Job Description
Director of Finance to help support our next phase of growth.

The Director of Finance will partner closely with leadership to support financial strategy, reporting, budgeting, and sustainable growth across our hospitals. Financial Reporting & Consolidations
  • Partner with the CFO to oversee the preparation of accurate, timely consolidated financial statements across all practice entities
  • Lead and support monthly, quarterly, and annual financial close processes in collaboration with the Controller
  • Review intercompany reconciliations and consolidation eliminations in Veterinary United's multi-entity environment
  • Ensure all financial reporting adheres to US GAAP standards and reflects the true financial position of the organization
  • Prepare and present financial reporting packages to the CFO and executive leadership, including commentary and variance analysis
  • Review contracts/agreements for business and financial impact

Strategic Planning, Budgeting & Forecasting
  • Lead the annual budgeting process across all entities, working with practice managers, the Controller, and the CFO to develop realistic and growth-aligned financial plans
  • Develop rolling forecasts and scenario models to support executive decision-making and capital allocation
  • Monitor budget-to-actual performance and proactively identify risks, opportunities, and corrective actions
  • Produce long-range financial models to support strategic initiatives, capital planning, and investor or lender reporting
  • Translate complex financial projections into clear, actionable insights for non-financial stakeholders

Acquisitions & Growth Support
  • Partner with the CFO and Business Development to evaluate, underwrite, and execute new practice acquisitions
  • Lead financial due diligence on acquisition targets, including quality of earnings analysis, liability assessment, and integration cost modeling
  • Oversee the financial onboarding and integration of newly acquired practices, including chart of accounts alignment, intercompany setup, and historical financial reconciliation
  • Support the structuring of acquisition transactions, purchase price allocations (ASC 805), and opening balance sheet entries
  • Maintain an active acquisition pipeline model to track deal flow, earn-out obligations, and post-close performance

Tax Strategy & Compliance
  • Serve as the primary internal liaison for all federal and state income tax matters across Veterinary United's multi-entity structure
  • Coordinate with external tax advisors on corporate income tax returns (Form 1120 / 1120-S), quarterly estimated payments, and year-end tax planning strategies
  • Monitor multi-state tax nexus obligations as the organization expands into new markets and ensure timely registration and compliance
  • Oversee sales and use tax compliance, payroll tax filings, and 1099/W-2 reporting across all entities
  • Identify and implement tax planning opportunities to optimize the organization's effective tax rate and cash tax position

Compliance, Risk & Internal Controls
  • Support the CFO in designing, implementing, and continuously improving internal controls across all entities to safeguard organizational assets
  • Identify financial, operational, and regulatory risks and develop mitigation strategies in partnership with leadership
  • Serve as a key liaison for external auditors, tax advisors, lenders, and regulatory bodies
  • Ensure ongoing compliance with all applicable federal, state, and local financial regulations across multi-state operations
  • Maintain and update the organization's accounting policies and procedures in alignment with US GAAP and organizational growth

Financial Analytics & KPIs
  • Design and maintain a comprehensive suite of financial and operational KPIs tailored to veterinary practice performance and organizational health
  • Deliver insightful variance analysis, trend reporting, and executive-ready financial commentary on a monthly and quarterly basis
  • Partner with operations, practice managers, and the CSO to interpret financial results and drive data-informed decisions
  • Leverage financial data to assess practice-level performance and identify opportunities for margin improvement and cost optimization

Team Leadership & CFO Support
  • Serve as a key advisor and right hand to the CFO, stepping in to represent financial operations as needed across internal and external stakeholder engagements
  • Coach Site Leaders in financial literacy and best practices
  • Mentor and develop the Controller and broader accounting team, fostering a culture of excellence, accountability, and continuous improvement
  • Collaborate cross-functionally with HR, operations, IT, legal, and practice leaders to support the organization's strategic and financial goals
  • Champion Veterinary United's people-first values within the finance function, building a team environment rooted in trust, transparency, and shared purpose

Requirements

Education & Credentials
  • Bachelor's degree in Accounting, Finance, Economics, Mathematics, Statistics, Actuarial Science, Data Analytics or a related field (required)
  • Master's degree in Finance, Accounting, or Business Administration (MBA) strongly preferred
  • CPA,CFA, CMA, CFP, FRM or relevant professional certification preferred

Experience
  • 10+ years of progressive finance and accounting experience, with at least 4 years in a Director of Finance, VP of Finance, or senior financial leadership role
  • Demonstrated experience in a multi-location, multi-entity environment - healthcare, veterinary, or DSO/MSO experience a strong plus
  • Proven track record in financial planning and analysis (FP&A), budgeting, feasibility analysis, and long-range modeling
  • Hands-on experience supporting mergers, acquisitions, and post-close financial integration
  • Experience managing tax compliance in a multi-state corporate environment, including coordination with external tax advisors
  • Background in building, improving, or scaling accounting and finance infrastructure in a growth-stage organization

Technical Skills
  • Deep knowledge of US GAAP and financial reporting standards, including ASC 805 (Business Combinations) and ASC 606 (Revenue Recognition)
  • Proficiency in accounting software such as Sage Intacct; experience with ERP systems and integrations a strong plus
  • Advanced Excel and financial modeling skills; experience with data visualization or BI tools (e.g., Power BI, Tableau, Looker) highly valued
  • Familiarity with consolidation software, FP&A platforms, and practice management systems
  • Adept with AI utilization
