Role Overview

As a Field Service Engineer, you will provide on-site technical and engineering support for Fluence battery energy storage systems (BESS), ensuring safe, reliable, and high-performing operations. Acting as the technical expert in the field, you will be responsible for commissioning support, preventive and corrective maintenance, troubleshooting hardware and software issues, system upgrades, diagnostics, and repairs.

You will work closely with customers, project teams, and remote technical support centers to identify and resolve complex system issues, optimize system performance, and minimize downtime. Through your technical expertise and commitment to safety, you will play a critical role in delivering exceptional customer service and ensuring the long-term success of our energy storage assets.

This role requires a hands-on professional who thrives in the field, enjoys solving technical challenges, and is passionate about supporting the transition to a more sustainable energy future.

Key Responsibilities

  • Maintain strong customer relationships through professional communication and support.
  • Diagnosing and troubleshoot electrical, mechanical and software issues for battery systems both remotely and on-site.
  • Manage third party contractors.
  • Provide onsite technical support and training to customers on system operation and safety.
  • Document service activities, maintenance records, and technical reports accurately.
  • Ensure compliance with industry safety standards and environmental regulations.
  • Respond to emergency service requests and resolve issues under time-sensitive conditions.
  • Ensure compliance with contractual terms, conditions, and service-level agreements

Required Qualifications & Experience

  • Bachelor's degree in electrical engineering, Mechanical Engineering, or related field (or equivalent technical experience).
  • 3-5 years of proven experience in field service, preferably within battery systems, energy storage, or power electronics.
  • Strong knowledge of electrical systems, troubleshooting, and diagnostic tools.
  • Ability to travel frequently to customer sites.
  • Excellent problem-solving and communication skills.
  • Ability to travel up to 40% of the time, occasionally on short notice.
  • Commitment to safety and adherence to compliance standards.
  • Experience with lithium-ion, lead-acid, or other advanced battery technologies.
  • Familiarity with renewable energy systems and grid storage solutions.
  • Knowledge of industry standards (e.g., OSHA, NFPA, IEEE).
  • Customer-focused mindset with strong interpersonal skills.
