Full Job Description
Job Summary:

AMETEK Power Instruments is seeking a Field Service Engineer to offer aftermarket support for our Electronic Instruments used in the electric utility and industrial markets.

The Field Service Engineer is responsible for providing customers with technical support related to the application and use of our products. They also provide solutions to technical concerns on the assigned products both on and off a customer's site by performing repairs, calibration, and maintenance.

Key Responsibilities:
  • Provide technical support for Power Instruments electric products as well as secondary products via phone, email, video conference and on-site service.
  • Set up and test products to duplicate and verify customer reported issues
  • Document product defects and liaise with product management, engineering and the customer
  • Provide customers with quotations for spare parts, repairs, upgrades, field service and training
  • Travel to customer sites and perform installation, commissioning and training on all products
  • Generate field service reports
  • Create training material for assigned products
  • Generate, process and analyze Return Material Authorizations (RMAs) and provide customers with detailed report of findings
  • Repair and calibrate equipment as needed
  • Construction of service test fixtures
  • Assist the sales and product management teams with customer presentations and demonstrations
  • Provide backup support for the sales application team on technical specification review and generation of product quotes
  • Enter and process spare parts and field service orders
  • Other service related duties as required


Minimum Qualifications:
  • Associate's degree in Electronics or related field or equivalent work experience required, for Technician level
  • 3+ years' experience servicing and trouble-shooting industrial electric equipment revenue meters
  • Understanding of and ability to use trigonometry and algebra to solve problems
  • Ability to read and interpret schematic diagrams
  • Understanding of various communication topologies and protocols; Ethernet, RS-232, RS-485, Dial-up Modem
  • Strong user of Microsoft Excel as a data analysis tool; formula writing
  • Ability to configure PC hardware/software for Ethernet and Serial communication


Desired Qualifications:
  • Bachelor's degree in Electrical Engineering or Electrical Engineering Technology for Engineer level
  • 5+ years' experience servicing and trouble-shooting industrial electric equipment revenue meters
  • Strong written and verbal communication skills
  • Desire to learn and understand how things work
  • Organized and detail oriented
  • Self-motivated requiring minimal direction
  • Strong aptitude for problem solving

The location for this position is Rochester, New York. Up to 25% - 40% travel may be required, but travel needs are sporadic.
