Position Summary

We are seeking an experienced Senior Field Evaluation Engineer to join our Field Evaluation team. In this role, you will independently lead complex field evaluation projects, assess electrical equipment for compliance with applicable codes and standards, and provide technical guidance to customers, regulatory authorities, and internal stakeholders.

The ideal candidate combines strong engineering expertise with practical field experience, exceptional customer engagement skills, and a deep understanding of electrical safety requirements, product compliance, and regulatory standards. This position requires frequent travel to customer sites and the ability to evaluate a wide range of industrial, commercial, and emerging technologies.

Key Responsibilities

Technical Leadership & Project Execution
  • Lead and manage complex field evaluation projects from initiation through final reporting and approval.
  • Determine project scope, evaluation methodology, testing requirements, and documentation needs based on product design, customer requirements, and applicable standards.
  • Conduct on-site evaluations of electrical equipment, industrial machinery, control systems, and specialized products to assess compliance with regulatory and safety requirements.
  • Interpret and apply electrical codes, installation requirements, and product safety standards to unique and non-standard equipment.
  • Develop evaluation plans, test procedures, and acceptance criteria for products that fall outside the scope of existing standards.
  • Perform and oversee electrical testing, measurements, inspections, and hazard assessments using appropriate test equipment and instrumentation.
  • Analyze technical data and engineering documentation to determine product compliance and identify areas requiring corrective action.

Customer & Regulatory Engagement
  • Serve as the primary technical contact for customers throughout the evaluation process.
  • Communicate compliance requirements, technical findings, and recommendations clearly and professionally.
  • Collaborate with Authorities Having Jurisdiction (AHJs), inspectors, regulatory officials, and other stakeholders to facilitate project completion.
  • Provide technical consultation regarding product safety, field labeling, equipment modifications, and code compliance.
  • Address customer concerns and resolve complex technical issues with a solutions-oriented approach.

Engineering Expertise & Continuous Improvement
  • Provide subject matter expertise in electrical safety, field evaluations, and regulatory compliance.
  • Support the development and improvement of field evaluation procedures, test methodologies, and engineering tools.
  • Mentor junior engineers and provide technical guidance on complex projects and interpretations.
  • Contribute to industry committees, technical presentations, training programs, and standards development activities as appropriate.
  • Promote a culture of safety, quality, integrity, and continuous improvement in all aspects of work.


Qualifications

Required Qualifications
  • Bachelor's degree in Electrical Engineering, Electrical Engineering Technology, Industrial Engineering, Physics, or a related technical discipline from an accredited institution.
  • Minimum of 3-8 years of experience in field evaluations, product safety engineering, electrical inspections, certification, compliance engineering, or a related technical field.
  • Expert knowledge of:
    • National Electrical Code (NEC)
    • NFPA standards
    • Building and electrical codes
    • Electrical product safety standards
    • Regulatory and conformity assessment processes
  • Demonstrated ability to independently manage complex technical projects and customer relationships.
  • Extensive experience conducting electrical testing and utilizing industry-standard test equipment.
  • Strong understanding of hazard-based safety engineering principles and risk assessment methodologies.
  • Excellent technical writing, analytical, and problem-solving skills.
  • Strong presentation and communication skills with the ability to explain complex technical concepts to diverse audiences.
  • Proficiency with engineering software, reporting tools, and Microsoft Office applications.
  • Ability to work independently in a remote environment.
  • Ability and willingness to travel extensively, including occasional international travel.
  • Valid driver's license and ability to travel to customer locations on short notice.

Preferred Qualifications
  • Professional Engineer (PE) license.
  • Certified Electrical Inspector or related industry certifications.
  • Experience evaluating industrial machinery, control panels, power distribution equipment, automation systems, or hazardous location equipment.
  • Familiarity with international standards and global compliance requirements.
  • Experience serving as a technical lead, reviewer, mentor, or engineering authority.

Location: Remote, located within reasonable proximity to a major airport.

Travel: Approximately 60-80% domestic travel with occasional international travel.

Additional Information

Compensation

The expected salary for this position is $40.00 to $50.00 per hour. This range represents the minimum and maximum base salary we reasonably expect to pay for this role. Actual compensation within the range will depend on skills, experience, and qualifications.
