Full Job Description
About the Positions

We're seeking Field Engineers of various skill levels to support large, complex heavy civil infrastructure programs, including highways, roads, bridges, transit (bus and rail), aviation (international airports), and water/wastewater projects delivered through both traditional and alternative delivery methods. These positions are about knowing what actually happened on site each day and having the record to prove it. You'll verify that installed work matches the approved documents, keep quantities, testing, and field issues documented as they occur, and build the factual basis for the decisions that follow.

This post is for future roles and not for a specific opportunity that is available right now. We accept applications and conduct interviews in advance of upcoming hiring needs. When a candidate is selected, their profile is activated in our talent pool for this specialty area. We notify our talent pool candidates first whenever we have a project need.

Responsibilities may include, but are not limited to, the following:

Note: We are seeking candidates of various skill levels, and the following responsibilities represent the core of these roles. Scope and complexity increase with experience level.
  • Monitor daily construction activities against the approved plans, specifications, and permit conditions, and document what was built, where, and under what conditions.
  • Prepare and maintain project field records, including daily reports, quantity records, photographs, and logs of site conditions, delays, and directives.
  • Verify installed quantities and work in place against contract pay items, and support review of the progress payment applications.
  • Review submittals, shop drawings, and material documentation for conformance with the contract documents, and track them through to disposition.
  • Coordinate requests for information among the contractor, the designer of record, and the program team, and drive responses to closure so field work is not held up.
  • Witness and document acceptance testing and materials sampling under the project quality assurance program, including concrete, asphalt pavement, and earthwork, and record nonconforming work until it is corrected.
  • Verify structures work against approved shop and working drawings, including falsework and shoring, reinforcing steel placement, and structural concrete placement, before the contractor proceeds.
  • Compare schedule updates and look-ahead plans against observed field progress, and flag deviations that put milestones or access windows at risk.
  • Document field issues, differing site conditions, and changed work as they occur, so the program's position on changes and claims rests on contemporaneous records.
  • Support construction oversight in and around active corridors and operating facilities, confirming that approved work windows, protection, and access restrictions hold.
  • Support close-out, including punch list tracking, verification of as-built records, and turnover documentation.

Attributes
  • Excellent written and verbal communication and interpersonal skills.
  • Excellent multi-tasking and organizational skills.
  • Collaborative mindset that fosters teamwork, trust, and positive relationships.
  • Natural curiosity, problem-solving abilities, and a commitment to continuous improvement.

Minimum Qualifications
  • Bachelor's degree in civil engineering, construction engineering, construction management, or structural engineering, or related field, or equivalent combination of education and experience.
  • 5+ years of field engineering or construction management experience for large (>$500M), complex, heavy-civil infrastructure projects.
  • Working knowledge of construction plans, specifications, submittals, and requests for information, and the ability to interpret them against work being built in the field.
  • Experience maintaining construction field records, including daily reports, quantity records, and documentation of site conditions.
  • Working knowledge of construction materials testing, acceptance procedures, and quality assurance documentation on heavy civil projects.
  • Experience with industry standard construction document control and field documentation software (e.g., Bluebeam Revu, Adobe Acrobat, Procore, e-Builder, Aconex, etc.).
  • Proficiency with Microsoft Office Suite/Office 365 (e.g., Outlook, Teams, Word, PowerPoint, etc.).

Preferred Qualifications
  • Master's degree in civil engineering, construction engineering, construction management, or structural engineering.
  • Active professional certifications and licenses such as EIT or PE, CCM (CMAA), and/or ACI Concrete Field Testing Technician Grade I (ACI).
  • Experience working in the owner's field office on a construction package exceeding $100M in construction value.
  • Experience verifying pay quantities and supporting review of progress payment applications on a program exceeding $1B in construction value.
  • Experience documenting differing site conditions, changed work, or delay events in support of the owner's position on a change or a claim.
  • Experience supporting construction oversight in and around active rail, airfield, or water and wastewater facilities under restricted work windows.
  • Experience with industry standard scheduling, survey, and design model software (e.g., Primavera P6, Microsoft Project, Civil 3D, Navisworks, etc.).
  • Proficiency with Microsoft Power BI, Oracle Cloud Analytics, or other dashboard KPI reporting software.
