Full Job Description
Field Engineer - Electric Utility Construction

EDM International is seeking a Field Engineer to support the construction of electric utility infrastructure projects. This is a hands-on, field-based engineering position for someone who enjoys being where the work is happening-working alongside contractors, engineers, and utility clients to help ensure projects are constructed safely and in accordance with engineering drawings, specifications, and project requirements.
As a Field Engineer, you'll monitor construction activities, document field conditions and project progress, identify discrepancies or potential nonconforming work, and help coordinate solutions when field conditions don't quite match what was expected on paper.
Experience with electric utility transmission, distribution, substation, or related infrastructure construction is strongly preferred.

What You'll Do
• Provide field engineering support for electric utility construction projects.
• Monitor construction activities and evaluate work for conformance with approved drawings, specifications, and project requirements.
• Prepare detailed daily field reports documenting construction progress, field conditions, and technical issues.
• Work directly with contractors, project engineers, and client representatives to communicate and help resolve field issues.
• Identify and document discrepancies, field changes, and potential nonconforming work.
• Observe concrete, soil, and other field testing and review available test results for consistency with project requirements.
• Review and maintain drawings, specifications, permits, RFIs, submittals, field revisions, and other project documentation.
• Promote a safety-conscious work environment and communicate observed safety concerns through appropriate project channels.

What We're Looking For
• Bachelor's degree in Civil, Electrical, Mechanical, Construction, or a related engineering discipline from an accredited college or university. Equivalent relevant engineering and utility construction experience may be considered depending on project requirements.
• 2+ years of engineering, construction, or field engineering experience.
• Experience supporting electric utility transmission, distribution, or substation projects is preferred.
• Experience with transmission line construction-including foundations, steel poles, lattice steel towers, conductors, or related infrastructure-is a plus.
• Engineer-in-Training (EIT) certification or progress toward Professional Engineer (PE) licensure is preferred but not required.
• Working knowledge of engineering and construction principles, including the ability to interpret construction drawings, specifications, design documents, material requirements, and conformance criteria.
• Ability to recognize when field conditions differ from design documents, document technical issues, and coordinate with engineering and construction personnel to support resolution.
• Proficiency with Microsoft Office and comfort working with web-based project documentation and collaboration systems.
• Experience with Procore, ArcGIS, Field Maps, or similar project and field applications is preferred.

Field Environment & Physical Requirements
This is a field-based position supporting active utility construction projects. Work may take place in remote and urban environments and in varying weather conditions.
The position may involve frequent driving and entering and exiting a full-size 4x4 pickup truck throughout the day. Field Engineers may walk or hike three or more miles per day across uneven, rough, wet, slippery, or steep terrain and work around active construction, traffic, noise, dust, and changing weather conditions. The role may also require carrying, pushing, or pulling up to 50 pounds.

Compensation & Benefits
Salary Range: $80,000-$120,000 per year

Compensation within the range will be based on relevant experience, technical background, utility construction experience, education, certifications, and overall qualifications.

Benefits Include:
• Health, Dental, and Vision Insurance
• Company HSA Contribution
• 401(k) with Company Match
• Life Insurance
• Short- and Long-Term Disability Insurance
• Supplemental Benefits
