Role description:

Arcadis is seeking a Field Biologist Lead to join the California High-Speed Rail Project Construction and Management (PCM) team in Selma, CA. The field specialist role centers around professional understanding with the Incidental Take Permit (ITP) and Biological Opinion (BO) from California Department of Fish and Wildlife (CDFW) and United States Fish and Wildlife Service (USFWS) respectively. This role seeks a highly motivated individual looking to further expand career development/growth with Arcadis. Role accountabilities:
  • Develop monitoring record forms and tracking systems. (Office 50%)
  • Conduct field monitoring of maintenance activities in compliance with the ITP and BO. (Field 50%)
  • Coordinate with the contractor and oversight to document corrective measures.
  • Enter new observations data into the project's database.
  • Review history data entry to evaluate quality.
  • Assist with file management and document storage.
  • Data tabulation.
  • Permit and contract document review.
  • Work independently on a consistent basis upon receiving training.

Required Qualifications:
  • Historic Approvals under Fresno to Bakersfield ITP (2081-2015-024-04)
  • Field experience with Blunt Nosed Leopard Lizards (BNLL), Burrowing Owl (BUOW), Tipton Kangaroo rat (TKR), San Joaquin Kit Fox (SJKF), San Joaquin Antelope Squirrel (SJAS), Swainsons Hawk (SWHA), etc.
  • 3+ years of field environmental experience related infrastructure projects.
  • Bachelor's degree in environmental studies, or a related field such as biology, ecology, natural resources management, sustainability, etc.
  • Proficiency with Microsoft Office products and data collection applications.

Preferred Qualifications:
  • Experience with construction means and methods.
  • Understanding of federal, state, and local environmental permits.
  • Proficiency with California Environmental Quality Act/ National Environmental Policy Act (CEQA/NEPA), Federal Endangered Species Act (ESA), California Endangered Species Act (CA ESA), Migratory Bird Treaty Act (MTBA), Master Streambed Alteration Agreement (MSAA), Clean Water Act Section 401 Certification, Clean Water Act Section 404 Permit, Construction General Permit (CGP), Stormwater Pollution Prevention Plan (SWPPP), and hazardous materials regulations.
  • Experience with sustainability goals, such as reduction of greenhouse gas emissions, water conservation, and recycling and waste management.

Actual salaries will vary and are based on several factors, such as experience, education, budget, internal equity, project and location.
