Join the power movement as an Field Assembly Manager

The Field Assembly Manager - Third Shift is responsible for leading and coordinating overnight assembly operations supporting the development and production of a first-of-its-kind fusion tokamak. This position provides hands-on leadership to a highly skilled workforce and oversees the activities of three union trades: Millwrights, Welders, and Electricians.

The Field Assembly Manager will ensure that work is executed safely, efficiently, and in accordance with engineering requirements, quality standards, production schedules, and established work instructions. This role requires a strong manufacturing leader who can effectively coordinate multiple skilled trades while working closely with Engineering, Quality, Safety, Supply Chain, and day-shift leadership.

Because the organization is building advanced fusion technology, this position requires a leader who is comfortable operating in an environment where processes are continually being developed, refined, and improved. The successful candidate will be highly visible on the production floor, capable of making sound decisions in real time, and skilled at removing obstacles to keep critical assembly activities moving forward

Hours: 11:00 pm - 7:30 am

Salary + 15% differential

What you'll do:

Night Shift Production Leadership

• Lead third shift assembly operations supporting tokamak construction and integration
• Provide direct supervision and coordination of Millwright, Welding, and Electrical union activities
• Establish priorities for the shift based on the overall production schedule and critical-path activities
• Ensure work is properly staffed, sequenced, and executed to meet daily and weekly production objectives
• Monitor production progress throughout the shift and proactively address delays, constraints, and resource issues
• Conduct shift-start meetings and communicate priorities, safety concerns, schedule requirements, and changes in work scope
• Maintain strong communication and handoff between day and night shifts
• Provide detailed shift reports documenting progress, issues, downtime, quality concerns, and outstanding work

Skilled Trades Coordination

• Coordinate work across Millwright, Welding, and Electrical trades to ensure activities are properly sequenced and do not interfere with one another
• Resolve conflicts between trades and establish clear priorities when multiple activities compete for resources or workspace
• Work closely with union leadership and shop stewards to ensure effective execution of work while maintaining positive labor relationships
• Verify that employees are assigned work appropriate to their trade, qualifications, and training
• Ensure work areas are properly prepared before releasing work to the appropriate trade
• Coordinate equipment, tooling, materials, permits, and technical information required to complete assigned work

Advanced Tokamak Assembly

• Supervise high-precision mechanical, electrical, structural, and welded assembly activities associated with the tokamak
• Ensure assembly work is performed according to engineering drawings, specifications, procedures, and approved work instructions
• Coordinate installation and integration of complex components, systems, and subsystems
• Work closely with Engineering when drawings, specifications, procedures, or field conditions require clarification.
• Identify installation issues and escalate technical problems appropriately
• Support the development and continuous improvement of assembly processes and standard work
• Maintain a strong focus on configuration control and ensure unauthorized modifications are not made to engineered systems

What we're looking for:

• Bachelor's degree in Engineering, Manufacturing, Operations, or a related field preferred; equivalent manufacturing leadership experience will be considered
• 5+ years of experience in a complex manufacturing, assembly, construction, or industrial environment
• Strong understanding of mechanical, welding, electrical, and industrial assembly processes
• Ability to read and interpret engineering drawings, specifications, and work instructions
• Strong understanding of industrial safety practices, including Lockout/Tagout

Bonus points for:

• Previous supervisory or leadership experience managing skilled trades strongly preferred.
• Experience working with unionized workforces
• Experience working in a high-precision or highly engineered manufacturing environment
• Experience with Lean manufacturing and continuous-improvement methodologies
• Strong computer skills and experience with ERP, MES, scheduling, or production-management systems

Must-have requirements:

• Ability to occasionally lift up to 50 lbs
• Perform activities such as stooping, climbing, typing, standing, or sitting for extended periods of time
• Work in a facility that contains industrial hazards including heat, cold, noise, fumes, strong magnets, lead (Pb), high voltage, high current, pressure systems, and cryogenics
• Willingness to travel or work required nights/weekends/on-call occasionally

$110,000 - $185,000 a year

Salary range for this full-time position + equity + benefits. The actual salary will depend on level, location, qualifications, and experience. The range displayed on each job posting reflects new hire salaries for the position across all US locations.
