Full Job Description
This role is remote anywhere in the US with occasional travel.

Our client is a well established small to medium sized federal construction company that is looking for a Federal Construction Estimator to Provide technical guidance to promote consistency across projects and clients. Responsible for preparing detailed reviews to support cost estimates, cash flow projections, and estimate documentation.

The Estimator participates in all phases of the bid and estimating process-from reviewing plans and specifications to soliciting and negotiating pricing from subcontractors and suppliers-through final bid completion and buyout. This role includes performing quantity takeoffs, pricing, scoping, and bidding for construction projects, including complex trade packages and self-performed work.

We are looking for someone with previous Federal Estimating experience.

Reports To: Director of Preconstruction

Essential Duties
  • Collaborate with the Director of Preconstruction and team members throughout the preconstruction phase.
  • Perform detailed quantity takeoffs.
  • Assist in pricing and bidding construction projects.
  • Develop and document assumptions during conceptual estimating and apply them to takeoff tasks.
  • Communicate with architects and owners to clarify scope, materials, and scheduling requirements; document all clarifications.
  • Review milestone documents to identify and price value engineering opportunities.
  • Participate in internal estimate review processes.
  • Assist in assembling final estimates for owner presentations.
  • Collect and organize bid information post-bid for future reference.
  • Support field operations with change order pricing as needed.
  • Coordinate with subcontractors by providing necessary information and documentation.
  • Prepare contractual scope exhibits for subcontracts.
  • Participate in hard bid estimating and GMP budgeting activities, including soliciting subcontractor bids and evaluating proposals.

Qualifications
  • Bachelor's degree OR 5-8 years of relevant federal estimating experience, or an equivalent combination of education, training, and experience.

Required Skills
  • Strong understanding of estimating processes and procedures.
  • Extensive experience in Engineering, Procurement, and Construction Management (EPCM) and lump sum estimating methods.
  • Proven ability to organize, perform, review, and present cost estimates with minimal supervision.
  • Deep understanding of project schedules and the ability to forecast cost curves based on activity sequencing.
  • Proficiency in Microsoft Office and scheduling/construction software (e.g., Primavera, Procore).
  • Working knowledge of negotiated bids, hard bids, and GMP processes.
  • Strong attention to detail.
  • Excellent interpersonal and communication skills.
