Position Summary
This position assesses eligibility for Society intervention, links children and families to appropriate community resources and investigates allegations of child harm. Investigations are customized and conducted by effectively engaging children, families, members of child's community and related professionals. This position ensures that children referred to the Society are protected in accordance with the Child, Youth, and Family Services Act, 2017. This position completes differential assessments of children and their families and utilizes approaches that match their individual needs and strengths to address the severity of the alleged maltreatment.
This position seeks out and supports client engagement and participation from the child, family, community and professionals to formulate service plans which address child safety and risk factors, concurrent planning and meet the child's permanency needs. This position works collaboratively with other service departments to provide services to children in out-of-home placements and collaborates with a variety of care providers and community service agencies to ensure that children's needs are met.
Qualifications
- B.S.W or equivalent as recognized by the Ontario College of Social Workers and Social Service Workers.
- B.A. in a Social Science with 6 months full-time direct CAS experience OR,
- 2 years related experience working with families and/or children (e.g. court clinics, residential programs, probation).
- Demonstrated knowledge and skills in family engagement, collaborative decision making, and conflict resolution.
- Understanding the importance of diversity and demonstrated practice skills which support and enhance the child and family's right to maintain their religious and cultural beliefs, values and customs.
Additional Information
Candidates must undergo and successfully pass a background check before an offer of employment may be made. Proof of education is required.
Driving is a requirement of this position. Successful applicants must have a valid driver's license and access to a reliable vehicle. Third-party liability insurance of a minimum of $2 million must be maintained.
Travel is required. This position is a temporary contract covering a leave. Durham Children's Aid Society does not utilize Artificial Intelligence for the screening and selection of candidates.
