Reports To

Sr. Manager - Product Quality and Failure Analysis Engineering (PQE/FAE)
What You Will Be Doing

ChargePoint is looking for a Failure Analysis Engineer with an interest in hands-on failure analysis lab of electronics and PCBA including AC/DC converters, DC/DC converters, electrical components, and modules. In this role, you will lead failure analysis investigations, interpret findings from electrical and physical testing, and communicate root cause conclusions to cross-functional teams. You will own investigations end-to-end-from initial fault isolation through final corrective action-ensuring exceptional quality at every stage of ChargePoint's electric vehicle charging products. To be successful at ChargePoint this person must be highly motivated, self-directed, and comfortable working in a loosely structured and fast-paced environment. Training and mentorship will be provided for candidates who bring strong analytical foundations and a willingness to learn hands-on electrical and physical analysis techniques.
What You Will Bring to ChargePoint

As a Failure Analysis Engineer, your responsibilities will focus on conducting and interpreting root cause analysis:
  • Lead system- and component-level failure analysis for customer field returns, new product introductions, and factory yield excursions; identify patterns across multiple failure events to surface systemic issues
  • Performs laboratory hands-on electrical and physical failure analysis for fault isolation on electronic products (EVSE, AC/DC converters, DC/DC converters, PCBA, and cable harness); interprets test data and documents findings in formal failure analysis reports
  • Defines and executes test plans for functional electrical testing, circuit analysis, fault isolation, probing, and failure duplication; communicates root cause conclusions to engineering and cross-functional stakeholders
  • Collaborates with engineering and operations teams to identify the root cause for issues related to field, manufacturing, supplier quality, and product design
  • Drives corrective and preventive action (CAPA) closure; maintains KPIs and databases; engages directly with suppliers or contract manufacturers on quality escapes as needed
  • Drives ambiguous problems to resolution independently, translating incomplete or conflicting data into clear findings and actionable next steps.
Requirements
  • Bachelor's degree in Electrical Engineering, Materials Science, Mechatronics, or a related technical field with 0-2 years of experience (new graduates welcome). Relevant coursework, capstone projects, and internships count toward experience.
  • Ability to read and interpret electrical schematics and component data sheets
  • Familiarity with electrical systems and components (PCBA, MOSFETs, IGBTs, Capacitors, Relays, Cable Harness, etc.) including their failure modes/mechanisms
  • Familiarity with or exposure to electrical test equipment such as Digital Multi-meter (DMM), Oscilloscopes, Power Supplies, Electronic Loads, etc.
  • Familiarity with physical failure analysis techniques such as optical microscopy and 2D / 3D X-ray
  • Experience applying problem solving tools including Root Cause Analysis
  • Ability to work independently as a self-starter; comfortable driving investigations with limited guidance and adapting approach as new data emerges
  • Interest in electronics industry such as automotive, consumer electronics, solar, electric vehicle, AI data centre, or battery
  • Willingness to travel domestically and internationally up to 10% of the time
