Job Description

Responsible for the day-to-day leadership, administration, and coordination of facilities operations for the Northbrook campus. Ensures the safe, reliable, and cost-effective operation of buildings, infrastructure, and workplace services through the management of internal staff, service providers, and contractors. Supports UL Solutions' operational objectives by maintaining facility performance, regulatory compliance, customer service excellence, and asset reliability.

Responsibilities

  • Lead daily facilities operations, maintenance, and building services activities across the Northbrook campus.
  • Supervise and develop facilities technicians, maintenance personnel, and contracted service providers to ensure high levels of performance, safety, and customer satisfaction.
  • Manage preventive, predictive, and corrective maintenance programs for building systems including HVAC, electrical distribution, plumbing, fire protection, building automation systems, and general facility infrastructure.
  • Coordinate and oversee maintenance repairs, minor construction projects, office modifications, and site improvements utilizing in-house resources and external contractors.
  • Support the development and management of annual operating, expense, and capital budgets; monitor expenditures and operate within approved financial targets.
  • Identify opportunities to improve operational efficiency, reduce facility operating costs, and optimize space utilization while maintaining service quality.
  • Ensure compliance with applicable regulatory, environmental, life safety, and corporate requirements, minimizing operational risk and maintaining audit readiness.
  • Manage vendor performance through service level expectations, contract compliance, and regular performance reviews.
  • Partner with Security, EHS, Real Estate, IT, Business Units, and Project Management teams to support campus operations and business initiatives.
  • Respond to facility emergencies and operational disruptions, coordinating corrective actions and communication to stakeholders.
  • Utilize CMMS/IWMS and other facility management tools to track work orders, maintenance activities, asset performance, and operational metrics.
  • Provide regular reporting on operational performance, maintenance activities, capital projects, and budget status to Facilities leadership.
  • Support implementation of corporate facilities standards, policies, procedures, and continuous improvement initiatives.
  • Perform additional duties and responsibilities as assigned by the Northbrook Facilities Leader.

  • Excellent verbal and written communication skills
  • Strong presentation skills and proficiency in MS Office.
  • Proficiency in CMMS/Work Order systems.
  • University Degree (Equivalent to a U.S. bachelor's degree) in a technical discipline or equivalent mix of education and experience.
  • 5-10+ years of facility management, plant operations, engineering, or maintenance supervision experience in laboratory, critical, or manufacturing environments.
  • FMP (Facilities Management Professional) or other relevant certifications

What we offer:

Total Rewards: We understand compensation is an important factor as you consider the next step in your career. The estimated salary range for this position is $97,200 - $129,500 and is based on multiple factors, including job-related knowledge/skills, experience, geographical location, as well as other factors. This position is eligible for annual bonus compensation with a target payout of 10% of the base salary. This position also provides health benefits such as medical, dental and vision; wellness benefits such as mental and financial health; and retirement savings (401K) commensurate with the standard rewards offered in each individual location or country. We also provide full-time employees with paid time off including vacation (15 days), holiday including floating holidays (12 days) and sick time off (72 hours).
