Job Summary
Bakken Overview

The Bakken trend is a sequence of liquids-rich sand and shale layers in the Williston Basin, which stretches across western North Dakota and into Canada. We hold approximately 799,000 net acres in the Williston Basin, located in North Dakota and eastern Montana. The primary producing zones are the Middle Bakken and Three Forks formations. We operated three rigs and one frac crew on average during 2025, resulting in 72 operated wells drilled and 98 operated wells brought online.

During 2025, net production averaged 204 MBOED.

Position Overview

The Bakken Facility Engineer supports safe, reliable, and cost-effective operation of production facilities across the modern Williston Basin asset. This role partners closely with Operations, Production Engineering, Reliability, Maintenance, Projects, HSE, Environmental, and Automation/SCADA to identify, prioritize, and execute facility engineering opportunities that improve safety, production performance, reliability, emissions performance, and operating cost.

The selected candidate will provide practical day-to-day engineering support, lead or support facility project development and execution, assist with troubleshooting and root-cause analysis, and contribute to risk management through Management of Change, Pre-Startup Safety Reviews, incident investigation, and action-item closure. The role also supports optimization of gathering, compression, water, and facility systems through data-informed analysis, field engagement, and disciplined project stewardship.

This position reports to the Williston Base Engineering Supervisor and will be located in either the Watford City, ND or Dickinson, ND office, with regular field engagement across Bakken operating areas.

Candidates must currently reside or willing to relocate within a 50-mile driving radius of Watford City, ND or Dickinson, ND.

This is a Safety Sensitive position.

Your Responsibilities May include:
  • Working closely with Operations, Production Engineering, Reliability, Maintenance, Environmental, and Development teams to identify, prioritize, and progress facility engineering opportunities that improve safety, reliability, production performance, emissions performance, and cost efficiency.
  • Depending on project scope, work may include opportunity framing, alternatives analysis, preliminary and detailed design, cost estimating, equipment selection, procurement support, construction coordination, commissioning readiness, and cost and schedule stewardship.
  • Providing day-to-day engineering support to Operations and Maintenance personnel, including troubleshooting, root-cause analysis, technical recommendations, and practical field support for facility performance issues.
  • Working with Production Engineering, Operations, Reliability, and Automation/SCADA partners to optimize existing facilities, improve uptime and runtime, reduce emissions and operating costs, and evaluate equipment upgrades, replacements, or operating changes.
  • Partnering with Operations, Projects, Construction, HSE, and Commissioning teams to ensure new projects are operable, maintainable, safe, and delivered with disciplined cost, schedule, and startup readiness.
  • Providing technical support for facility risk assessments, Management of Change, Pre-Startup Safety Reviews, incident investigations, audit findings, and action-item closure to help ensure safe and compliant operation of Bakken facilities.
  • Developing or using gathering, compression, water, and facility models to identify constraints, optimize configurations, and support integrated decisions across production facilities, midstream interfaces, compression systems, and water handling infrastructure.
  • Evaluate facility debottlenecking, consolidation, reliability improvement, emissions reduction, volume enhancement, and operating-cost reduction opportunities.
  • Provide technical support to Operations and Automation/SCADA teams on process control, instrumentation, alarm response, data visibility, and control-system-related facility performance issues.
  • Build trust with Operations, Production Engineering, Reliability, Maintenance, Projects, HSE, Environmental, Automation/SCADA, and field teams by communicating clearly, listening to field input, and driving aligned solutions.

  • Legally authorized to work in the United States
  • Current/Valid driver's license
  • Bachelor's degree in Mechanical, Chemical, Electrical, Petroleum, Civil, or related Engineering discipline
  • 1 or more years of engineering experience, internship, co-op, rotational assignment, or comparable technical experience supporting oil and gas, industrial facilities, manufacturing, utilities, construction, or field operations
  • Intermediate level of proficiency in engineering fundamentals, learning field operations
  • Currently reside or willing to relocate within a 50-mile driving radius of Watford City, ND or Dickinson, ND
  • Willing and able to perform (with or without reasonable accommodation) the following: Work outside in harsh weather conditions; Wear personal protective equipment (PPE); Be on call; Work unscheduled overtime; Work weekends
  • Willing and able, with or without reasonable accommodation, to travel 10% of the time on a yearly basis


Preferred Qualifications:
  • 3 or more years of engineering experience supporting upstream oil and gas production operations, facility design, construction, reliability, base engineering, or project execution
  • Owns facility engineering outcomes from opportunity identification through execution and follow-up; follows through on commitments, closes action items, and supports safe, reliable, and compliant operation of Bakken facilities
  • Prioritizes work that improves safety, reliability, production performance, emissions performance, and operating cost; uses disciplined planning, field engagement, and practical engineering judgment to deliver measurable results
  • Uses available data, field input, risk context, and engineering fundamentals to make timely, sound decisions that are safe, ethical, and aligned with business priorities
  • Experience supporting facility troubleshooting, root-cause analysis, project scoping, cost estimating, construction support, startup, or commissioning activities
  • Familiarity with Management of Change, Pre-Startup Safety Reviews, incident investigations, risk assessments, audit findings, or action-item closure
  • Working knowledge of production facilities, gathering, compression, water handling, automation/SCADA interfaces, or process control systems
  • Demonstrated focus on safety, reliability, emissions performance, continuous improvement, and practical field execution
