IT Systems Engineer who will support on-prem IT infrastructures in virtualized environments. You will provide Second Level Engineering support for systems providing enterprise cybersecurity services in a dev/test/prod deployment environment supporting critical FAA cybersecurity capabilities.
In this role, the IT Systems Engineer will work as part of a dynamic team of network and application administrators and engineers and will be responsible for optimizing and securing our enterprise infrastructure. You will oversee critical storage and backup solutions and implement robust infrastructure monitoring strategies to ensure maximum uptime. You'll work with teammates to design, configure, test, and deploy infrastructure services supporting cybersecurity initiatives. You will apply strong security best practices and assist with developing an approach for patching, upgrades, and tuning when system maintenance is required. The IT Systems Engineer will also support the development of operations-related documentation, including configuration data, change requests, installation procedures, knowledge base articles, Standard Operating Procedures (SOPs), engineering diagrams, and test plans.
Job Duties & Responsibilities (may include but are not limited to):- Requirements development, analysis and supporting comprehensive trade studies
- Support the design of infrastructure storage requirements to support virtual deployments of applications
- Build, configure, and deploy infrastructure monitoring solutions across highly virtualized environments (e.g., VMware vSphere, Hyper-V, or hybrid cloud stacks)
- Implement and maintain DISA STIG compliance profiles for all newly deployed infrastructure solutions, core roles, and virtualized components.
- Provide technical oversight and execution strategy for simultaneous infrastructure initiatives, ensuring deployments are delivered predictably, documented thoroughly, and transitioned smoothly to operations
- Experience deploying performance monitoring solutions such as ScienceLogic or HP OpenView
- Experience working with network storage and backup solutions, such as Commvault, in a virtual environment
- Support the teammates on configuration management requirements and assist with licensing management and tracking
- Experience with using ticketing systems and Tier II or higher helpdesk
- Ability to work independently and in a group to resolve technical issues in a dynamic environment
QualificationsRequired: A successful candidate will have- 7-10 years of experience working in deployment, migration, and lifecycle management of on-premises IT infrastructures
- Technical experience deploying and managing infrastructure monitoring services within large-scale virtualized infrastructures, including clustering, high availability, and virtual storage/networking dependencies
- Experience deploying and maintaining enterprise backup and storage solutions
- Ability to support teammates in the deployment of infrastructure applications in hybrid Windows and Red Hate environment
- Experience in hardening enterprise environments using DISA STIGs, utilizing tools like OpenSCAP, SCAP Compliance Checker (SCC), or automated remediation playbooks
- Demonstrated ability to support, track, and execute technical deliverables across multiple parallel projects and environments.
- Support trade study evaluations and provide leadership analysis and recommendations
- CompTIA Security+ or equivalent cybersecurity certification
- Minimum of a B.S. in Computer Science
Preferred:- Experience configuring and deploying solutions using container technologies such as Red Hat Open Shift
- Vendor specific certifications such as Skylar One Professional Certification (ScienceLogic), Commvault Professional & Engineer Certifications, or other similar solutions
- CompTIA Network+ or equivalent
Work Requirements:- Work location: William J Hughes Technical Center, NJ
- Position is: Completely in-person/on-site
- Work Hours: 40/week
- Travel: Minimal, but possible
- Physical requirements:
o Extended Computer Use: Regular and prolonged periods of working at a computer terminal.
o Lifting and Carrying: Occasional lifting of equipment and materials weighing up to 50 pounds may be required during installations or maintenance.
o Mobility: Ability to move around the office environment to access computer hardware, networking equipment, and server rooms.
o Dexterity: Manual dexterity and visual acuity to operate computer equipment, troubleshoot issues, and perform tasks requiring precision.
o Sitting/Standing: Both prolonged sitting and occasional standing may be required for troubleshooting and attending to system issues.
