The opportunity

As an Expert Group Underwriter, you will work within a team of skilled and energetic employees like yourself. You will collaborate with the Group Insurance Pricing team to ensure that Medavie Blue Cross achieves its financial objectives for group health, life, and disability insurance sectors.

You will support pricing for large and complex corporate groups, respond to internal and external inquiries, mentor underwriters, and contribute to strategic initiatives and process improvements.

Your Day-to-Day Responsibilities
  • Establish renewal and quote pricing for large and complex groups
  • Analyze experience and trends to support pricing recommendations and long-term feasibility
  • Respond to internal and external client inquiries related to pricing, experience and plan design
  • Conduct peer reviews, coaching and mentoring for underwriting staff
  • Participate and/or lead projects and process-improvement initiatives
  • Prepare and/or review ASO and Retention financial statements and agreements
  • Provide underwriting input to management and business partners


The Ideal Candidate Would Have the Following Skills
  • Post-secondary education in the field of business administration, mathematics, actuarial science, statistics or finance.
  • 10-15 years progressive Group Underwriting experience including different funding -arrangements and corporate groups.
  • Strong knowledge of Excel and Word
  • Strong communication skills
  • Excellent analytical and decision-making abilities
  • Strong time-management and organizational skills
  • Team-oriented with strong negotiation skills
  • Proficiency in English is required to perform the duties of this role.
  • Explanation: This role requires regular collaboration with internal teams, partners, and stakeholders located outside Québec who operate primarily in English. As such, a strong command of English is necessary to ensure effective communication, coordination, and successful execution of daily responsibilities.


Salary Range: $99,177.00 to $121,217.00

The Base Pay range may vary depending on the successful candidate or other relevant job-related factors such as knowledge, skills, qualifications, experience and education/training. In addition to Base Pay, eligible Medavie employees may participate in various performance-based incentive programs. Payments under these programs are discretionary and subject to both individual and organizational results.
