The Chief of Staff serves as senior advisor and integrator to the Executive Vice President & President, Physician Enterprise, and to the Office of the Physician Enterprise (OPE). The Physician Enterprise brings together Northwell's service lines, Medical Group, and physician leadership to strengthen physician-led strategy and its execution across the system's markets.
The Chief of Staff extends the reach of the EVP. The role moves OPE priorities from decision to execution and runs the operating rhythm of the office. It manages key relationships across service lines, markets, and executive offices, and keeps the EVP's time and attention on the highest-value work. The Chief of Staff partners closely with the OPE Chief Administrator and Chief Financial Officer and leads through influence rather than direct authority.
Plans and organizes the development, coordination, and management of programs, services, and policies identified by the leadership. Oversees the planning, organizing, and operational performance of identified business units and corporate initiatives. Participates in the development and implementation of financial and strategic planning activities; facilitates quality improvement initiatives and the integration of the organizational values.
Job Responsibility
- Executive Partnership and Office Leadership
- Serves as trusted advisor and thought partner to the EVP. Provides candid counsel, raises risks and issues early, and acts as an honest broker on matters that need EVP attention.
- Manages the EVP's priorities, calendar strategy, and decision flow in partnership with the EVP's senior executive assistant.
- Prepares the EVP for key meetings with briefing materials, background analysis, and recommended positions.
- Tracks decisions, commitments, and action items from EVP meetings and drives them to completion.
- Designs and runs the OPE operating cadence, including leadership team meetings and priority reviews with the Chief Administrator and CFO.
- Integrates strategic, operational, and financial information from across the OPE into a unified view of Physician Enterprise priorities and performance.
- Strategy Execution
- Leads program management of OPE priority initiatives, including implementation of the Physician Enterprise operating model. Sets workplans, milestones, and accountability, and reports progress to the EVP and system leadership.
- Coordinates external consulting and advisory engagements supporting the OPE so that deliverables stay aligned with the EVP's direction.
- Initiates and conducts strategic and operational analyses of market opportunities, growth, service-line performance, and best practices. Turns findings into clear, actionable recommendations.
- Leads special projects on behalf of the EVP. Problems addressed are of broad scope and substantial complexity.
- Stakeholder and Relationship Management
- Builds productive working relationships on behalf of the EVP with service-line chairs and leaders, market presidents, Medical Group leadership, and corporate shared services.
- Serves as a primary point of coordination with the offices of the Chief Operating Officer and Chief Executive Officer.
- Maintains a structured engagement cadence with service-line leadership. Captures issues and commitments and makes sure the right owners resolve them.
- Represents the EVP in meetings and forums as delegated.
- Develops relationships within and outside the industry to bring best practices, fresh perspective, and new opportunities to the Physician Enterprise.
- Communications
- Drafts and oversees executive communications, presentations, and memos for senior leadership, governance bodies, and physician audiences.
- Keeps messaging on the Physician Enterprise's direction, priorities, and progress clear and consistent.

- Coordinates, oversees, and manages objectives of corporate business units and initiatives as identified by the leadership.
- Organizes efforts to prioritize needs of specified business units across shared services.
- Initiates and coordinates strategic analyses of market opportunities, growth objectives, space allocation, research and procurement of technological solutions and capital allocation for responsible business units.
- Initiates and evaluates analyses identifying best practices and opportunities; makes recommendations for improvements in operational processes, policies and procedures.
- Oversees the development and monitoring of strategic operating goals, objectives and reports operational performance, financial management and operational performance.
- Develops and oversees financial management including budget, salary, capital, and revenue projections.
- Participates in planning, organizing, and coordinating financial practices to grow revenue and manage expenses; monitors and evaluates business unit performance by developing metrics or using industry recognized tools.
- Prepares operational analysis, presentations and recommendations as required; presents analysis and recommendations to leadership.
- Advises the leadership of all potential opportunities benefitting corporate operations.
- Applies new concepts and techniques to streamline operations and improve outcomes.
- Identifies and implements technology to improve operations.
- Builds and maintains productive inter/intra departmental and vendor work relationships to optimize operations.
- Oversees and evaluates educational needs related to operational business practices and conducts-in services; develops, builds and grows relationships in and out industry to keep current with advances in the management and evolvement of assigned business units.
- Builds and maintains list of successors for key roles.
- Oversees the development of strategies to improve satisfaction, collaboration, quality and efficiency across the organization.
- Uses knowledge and skills to contribute to the development of functional objectives and principles to achieve goals in innovative ways. Problems addressed are of diverse scope and complexity ranging from moderate to substantial.

Job Qualification
- Bachelor's degree required. Master's degree (MBA, MHA, MPH, or related field) preferred.
- 7+ years of progressive experience, required, with demonstrated success leading complex, cross-functional initiatives.
- Background in one or more of the following:
- Strategy or management consulting with a healthcare focus
- Leadership within a large integrated health system, academic medical center, or physician organization
- A senior strategy, operations, or executive-office role at a peer health system
- Demonstrated ability to work effectively with C-suite executives and credibility with physician leaders.
- Exceptional written and verbal communication, including the ability to distill complex issues into concise executive materials.
- Proven judgment and discretion.
- Track record of leading through influence without direct authority.
- Preferred: familiarity with physician enterprise or Medical Group operations, service-line models, physician compensation, or academic medicine.
- Bachelor's Degree required, or equivalent combination of education and related experience.
- 5-7 years of relevant experience and progressive experience where team leadership was demonstrated, required.
