Overview

Coming Home of Middlesex County, Inc. (Coming Home or CHM) seeks a visionary, strategic, and collaborative leader to serve as its next Executive Director. This is a unique opportunity to lead a county-established nonprofit at the center of coordinated efforts to prevent and end homelessness across Middlesex County.

 

With an annual budget of approximately $1.5 million, the Executive Director will guide the organization’s staff in strengthening and expanding a data-driven, system-wide response to homelessness while fostering strong partnerships with government, housing providers, health systems, and social service agencies. Reporting to the Board of Directors and working closely with Middlesex County leadership, the Executive Director will oversee organizational strategy, fundraising, operations, and community engagement.

 

This role is ideal for an experienced executive, preferably in a nonprofit organization, who is passionate about the mission, skilled at navigating complex public-sector environments, and motivated to drive measurable systems change.

Key Responsibilities:

Strategic & Organizational Leadership• Partner with the Board of Directors to define and implement strategic priorities, performance goals, and mission-aligned initiatives.• Provide visionary leadership and ensure organizational accountability for results.• Foster an inclusive, high-performing workplace culture while supervising and mentoring a team of approximately 11 staff.

 

Fundraising & Resource Development• Lead a comprehensive fundraising strategy including government and foundation grants, corporate partnerships, individual donor cultivation, and major gift solicitation.• Strengthen and diversify revenue streams to support long-term sustainability and program expansion.

Operations & Program Oversight• Oversee daily operations including case management programs, housing development initiatives, HMIS and CEA system functions, budgeting, financial oversight, grant compliance, and human resources.• Ensure alignment between program delivery, data outcomes, and strategic objectives.• Direct organizational marketing and communications efforts, including website presence, digital engagement, and public messaging.

Community Leadership & Advocacy• Serve as a visible leader and advocate for housing stability and homelessness prevention initiatives.• Build and maintain strong partnerships with healthcare providers, behavioral health agencies, housing developers, local government, and community-based organizations.

 

Systems Leadership• Lead and participate in countywide initiatives designed to improve the homelessness response system.• Convene stakeholders, facilitate collaborative decision-making, and advance innovative solutions based on data analysis and community need.

 

Governance & Compliance• Attend Board and Executive Committee meetings and provide regular reports on organizational performance, financial health, and risk management.• Ensure compliance with all applicable legal, regulatory, and funding requirements.

Qualifications:

 

Education• Candidates with an MSW, MPH, MPA, or equivalent professional experience are strongly encouraged to apply

 

Experience• Minimum of seven years of senior leadership experience preferably in a nonprofit social service or housing organization (Executive Director, Deputy Director, or equivalent).• Demonstrated experience in securing major grants and developing diverse funding sources.• Strong understanding of homelessness systems, housing policy, entitlement benefits, and federal, state, and local housing subsidy programs.• Experience leading process improvement initiatives and coordinating multi-agency partnerships preferred.• Strong familiarity with County social and health resource networks preferred; ability to quickly build local relationships required.Core Competencies• Inclusive leadership and team development.• Exceptional written and verbal communication skills, including public speaking and stakeholder facilitation.• Strategic thinking and systems leadership.• Ability to manage complex legal, regulatory, and administrative environments.• Contract review and negotiation skills.• Strong conflict resolution, persuasion, and change-management capabilities.• Advanced data literacy and ability to translate analytics into accessible insights.• Experience with program evaluation, research methods, and performance measurement.

Compensation & Schedule
