Full Job Description
The Executive Director, Employer Sales leads performance, growth, retention, and execution across a large pharmacy benefit management employer sales organization. This role serves as the operational and strategic leader for employer sales, translating enterprise and segment priorities into measurable business outcomes while ensuring consistent execution across teams and client portfolios.

Acting as the organizational lead, the Executive Director drives alignment among senior sales leaders, establishes performance expectations, and ensures disciplined execution against growth, retention, profitability, and client satisfaction objectives. Success is achieved through leadership influence, enterprise partnerships, data-driven decision making, and strong operating rigor-rather than direct account management responsibilities.

This leader plays a critical role in helping CVS Caremark anticipate market dynamics, respond to competitive pressures, and position solutions that address employer needs in an increasingly complex healthcare environment. The Executive Director serves as a key liaison between field sales leadership and enterprise stakeholders, helping to shape priorities, remove barriers to execution, and ensure strategic initiatives are translated into measurable results.

The role is highly collaborative and matrixed, requiring strong partnerships across Product, Clinical Solutions, Underwriting, Finance, Operations, Analytics, Marketing, Consultant Relations, Legal, and Technology teams. In addition, the Executive Director serves as a senior market-facing leader, representing CVS Caremark in critical client interactions, consultant engagements, finalist presentations, and strategic business reviews.

Key Responsibilities
Enterprise Execution & Strategic Leadership
  • Translate enterprise, segment, and sales strategies into actionable priorities, measurable goals, and clear performance expectations across sales organizations.
  • Establish operating rhythms, governance structures, and accountability mechanisms that drive consistent execution and business results.
  • Partner with senior leadership to identify growth opportunities, competitive threats, market trends, and emerging employer needs.
  • Drive adoption of enterprise initiatives, sales strategies, and market-facing programs across employer sales teams.
  • Ensure alignment between organizational priorities, resource allocation, and market execution.
Sales Performance & Growth Leadership
  • Own oversight of revenue growth, retention, and profitability performance across employer sales portfolios.
  • Lead forecasting, p and l management, and opportunity review processes to improve business predictability and execution effectiveness.
  • Monitor sales performance metrics, identify risks and opportunities, and drive corrective actions when results are off track.
  • Evaluate team portfolio performance to ensure balanced growth and achievement of financial objectives.
  • Leverage data, analytics, and AI-enabled insights to improve decision-making, opportunity prioritization, and sales effectiveness.
Client Retention & Executive Engagement
  • Provide executive oversight and support for strategic employer relationships, key renewals, market checks, and competitive opportunities.
  • Serve as executive sponsor and escalation leader for high-profile client situations and business-critical initiatives.
  • Participate in finalist presentations, executive business reviews, consultant discussions, and client strategy sessions.
  • Support sales leaders in delivering consultative solutions aligned to employer objectives, trend management, clinical outcomes, and member experience goals.
  • Help ensure employer clients receive differentiated values and remain positioned for long-term partnership and growth.
Financial & Operational Leadership
  • Drive accountability for revenue performance, retention outcomes, and profitable growth across the employer sales organization.
  • Monitor key performance indicators including p and l health, renewal outcomes, forecast accuracy, client satisfaction, and sales productivity.
  • Partner with Finance, Underwriting, and Pricing teams to ensure disciplined management of growth opportunities and business performance.
  • Identify operational barriers, process inefficiencies, and organizational risks affecting execution and business outcomes.
  • Champion continuous improvement initiatives focused on scalability, efficiency, and operational excellence.
Enterprise Influence & Cross-Functional Collaboration
  • Partner closely with Product, Clinical, Underwriting, Consultant Relations, Operations, Technology, Finance, Analytics, Marketing, and Legal teams.
  • Represent the needs of employer clients and field teams to influence product development, service enhancements, and enterprise priorities.
  • Drive resolution of cross-functional challenges impacting growth, retention, and client experience.
  • Surface trade-offs, escalate complex issues, and influence enterprise decisions that support market success and organizational objectives.
  • Act as a trusted advisor to executive leadership on sales performance, market trends, and strategic opportunities.
Leadership Development & Talent Management
  • Lead, coach, and develop Managing Directors and other senior sales leaders.
  • Establish high performance standards and foster a culture of accountability, collaboration, innovation, and continuous improvement.
  • Build succession plans and proactively address leadership capability gaps across the organization.
  • Develop future leaders through coaching, mentoring, and targeted talent strategies.
  • Support organizational effectiveness and change management initiatives across employer sales teams.
