At the full performance level, major duties include:
- Serves as a subject matter expert in the development of recommendations on agency and/or interagency policy and guidance with respect to regulatory capital, liquidity, interest rate risk, capital markets instruments, activities, and strategies (including structured products, trading activities and derivatives activities); and other supervisory and examination issues.
- Serves as a subject matter expert in the analysis and examination of bank and non-bank financial institution activities including stress testing exercises, market risk reviews, capital markets related horizontal reviews, market making and underwriting metrics, derivatives activities (including hedging), and other similar data intensive or model-based analyses.
- Provides technical examination and supervisory guidance, advice, and assistance to RMS Washington Office management and staff, RMS regional and area office management, RMS Regional Capital Markets Specialists, other regional and area office staff, and field examination staff primarily in areas of liquidity, sensitivity to market risk, securities, regulatory capital, and other capital markets related matters.
- Assists in the development of Division policies and revised supervisory approaches to the examinations that relate to liquidity, sensitivity to market risk, securities, regulatory capital, and other capital markets related matters.
- Evaluates the potential impact of regulatory and capital markets changes on the general economy, the banking industry and the Deposit Insurance Fund in developing recommended actions for purposes of promoting safety and soundness or protecting the financial stability of the United States.
- Conducts financial and capital markets research and analyses of complex financial instruments and analyzes the impact that such would have on the actions and activities of bank and non-bank financial institutions.
- Performs research and develops analytical reports on segments of complex capital markets issues regarding capital market instruments, insured institution's use and involvement with/in capital markets and the associated risks. Analyzes the actual and potential impact of capital, earnings, liquidity and market risks to insured financial institutions.
- Keeps abreast of trends and developments in the field of finance, economics and law related to financial institutions. Keeps abreast of trends and developments in portfolio management and trading strategies utilized by financial institutions.

- Conducting examinations of financial institutions and independently developing or analyzing compliance with policies related to regulatory capital, liquidity, interest rate risk, capital markets instruments, activities, and strategies; and analyzing financial institutions' capital markets activities to identify instruments or strategies posing institution-level or systemic U.S. financial risk.
In addition to the qualification requirements above, you must meet the following selective factor:
- Must be a commissioned FDIC Financial Institution Examiner (Risk Management) or hold a Risk Management Examiner commission from another comparable organization as determined by the FDIC.

Financial Institution Examiners must maintain the highest personal ethical standards as provided in Part 336 of the FDIC's Rules and Regulations, (Employee Responsibilities and Conduct). Financial Institution Examiners must comply with Section 3201.102 of Supplemental Standards of Ethical Conduct for FDIC Employees (5 CFR Part 3201), which, in part, prohibits them and their immediate families from accepting certain credit from State nonmember banks.
All Financial Institution Examiners are prohibited from the following:1. Obtaining a loan or a line of credit from any insured state nonmember bank or its subsidiaries. Any extensions of credit held by the Examiner, the Examiner's spouse, or any dependent children are direct or indirect extensions of credit to the Examiner.
Exceptions:
a. Loans for a primary residence are permissible. The Examiner must not participate in any examination of that institution with which he holds the primary residence loan, and a "cooling off" period is required before negotiating a loan for a primary residence from any institution the Examiner has examined.
b. No restrictions on obtaining credit cards issued under the same terms and conditions available to the public from an insured state nonmember bank either within or outside of their field office of assignment.
2. Participating in any examination, or other matter, involving an insured depository institution or any person with whom the Examiner has an outstanding loan or line of credit.
3. Performing any service for compensation with any bank, or for any officer, director, or employee thereof, or for any person connected therewith.
4. Disclosing any confidential information from a bank examination report except as authorized by law.
5. Soliciting or accepting any gift from a prohibited source or because of the Examiner's official position.
Salary reflects a pay cap for this position of $257,500.
