Full Job Description
EVP, Chief Financial Officer Summa Health

Location: Summa Health Corporate Office - 1077 Gorge Blvd, Akron, OH 44310

Summary:

Serves as a key financial and operational leader in the evolution into one of the first AI-native health systems. Reporting to the President & CEO, the CFO will have broad responsibility for the financial health, operational performance, capital strategy, and administrative transformation of the integrated health system, which includes hospitals, a provider medical group, and its health plan.

This is a transformation-focused role, with accountability extending well beyond traditional finance. The CFO will serve as the financial architect and fiduciary owner of Summa's transformation, leading margin recovery, cost optimization, capital planning, and the redesign of how the organization plans, makes decisions, and operates. The role also oversees revenue cycle, supply chain, risk management, insurance, and shared services.

Key Responsibilities:
• Lead the organization's financial turnaround and value-creation agenda, improving margins through growth, service-line economics, physician economics, length of stay, and sustainable cost reduction.
• Oversee financial planning and analysis, cost accounting, decision support, controllership, accounting policy, and financial reporting integrity.
• Lead payer economics, including managed care contracting and the financial operations of SummaCare.
• Own treasury, liquidity, capital structure, debt, financings, investment portfolio, lender relationships, and rating agency relationships.
• Oversee administrative performance functions including revenue cycle, supply chain, risk management, and insurance.
• Build and lead shared services, standardizing and re-engineering transactional operations through technology and AI to improve performance while reducing cost.
• Redesign budgeting, forecasting, capital allocation, and decision-support processes so that leaders receive better information faster and make more effective decisions.
• Help establish new operating, accountability, and leadership models across the enterprise.
• Drive the integration of technology and artificial intelligence into finance and administrative operations, rather than treating AI as an incremental automation tool.

Minimum Qualifications:

1. Formal Education Required:
a. Bachelor's degree or equivalent combination of education and/or experience.
b. Master's Degree in Business Administration and Management or Hospital Administration and Management preferred
c. Certified Public Accountant (CPA) license preferred

2. Experience and Training Required:
a. Ten (10) years of experience in an administrative position with concentration in accounting and finance.
b. Experience leading operational functions alongside finance, and re-engineering transactional operations.
c. Experience with ERP standardization (Workday preferred) and modern close automation.
d. Experience driving a financial turnaround or transformation and can point to the margin it produced and reports it generated.
e. Experience holding fiduciary accountability and signed the statements at comparable scale and complexity.
f. Command of managed care contracting experience.
g. Preference to have served as the CFO of a large integrated delivery system.
h. Integrated system and health plan experience is strongly preferred.

3. Other Skills, Competencies and Qualifications:
a. Possess strong treasury and capital markets capability, including leading financings and owning lender and rating agency relationships.
b. Possess real fluency with technology and AI, and the appetite to put both at the center of how finance and administrative operations are run.
c. Possess fluency across provider and payer economics.
d. Ability, executive presence, and credibility to operate as a peer to the CEO, clinical leadership, and Board.
e. Population Specific Competency: Ability to effectively interact with patients/customers with the understanding of their needs for self-respect and dignity

4. Level of Physical Demands:
a. Sedentary: Exerts up to ten pounds of force occasionally and/or a negligible amount of force frequently
