Full Job Description
Title/Role: Estimator - Transit & Rails
Division: Large Specialty Projects
Location: New York City, NY
Reporting to: VP - Divisional Manager

Position Description:
E-J's Estimators are crucial in the pre-construction phase, providing accurate and competitive cost estimates for electrical projects across various industries. Your expertise in estimating and pricing will help drive successful project bids, ensuring the company's continued growth and success in the market.

Responsibilities (including but not limited to):
  • Review and analyze project plans, specifications (including drawings and schedules), and other relevant documents to gain a comprehensive understanding of the project's scope and requirements
  • Prepare detailed and accurate cost estimates for projects, encompassing labor, materials, equipment, subcontractor services, and other associated expenses
  • Utilize industry-standard software and tools (McCormick, BLUEBEAM) to generate estimates, ensuring precision and consistency in the estimation process
  • Account for factors such as market conditions, labor rates, and material costs
  • Collaborate with the bid team to develop comprehensive bid proposals, ensuring compliance with client requirements and specifications
  • Participate in bid meetings and presentations, providing insights into the estimation process and the rationale behind pricing decisions
  • Solicit and evaluate quotes from suppliers and subcontractors to secure competitive pricing for materials and services
  • Develop and maintain strong relationships with vendors and subcontractors to obtain pricing and information
  • Prepare regular reports and summaries on cost tracking and estimating accuracy
  • Collaborate with the Engineering and Project Management Teams to clarify any ambiguities and gather necessary information for accurate estimation
  • Share insights and best practices with the team to enhance overall estimating capabilities
Qualifications:
  • Minimum of 8 years of experience working in electrical estimating
  • Bachelor's degree in electrical engineering, construction management, or a related field/equivalent experience is preferred
  • Proficient in the Microsoft Suite
  • Proven experience as an electrical estimator in the construction industry, preferably with expertise in electrical systems and installations
  • Strong knowledge of electrical construction practices, materials, and methodologies
  • Familiarity with industry-standard estimating software and tools (McCormack, Bluebeam)
  • Excellent analytical and mathematical skills with keen attention to detail
  • Effective communication and interpersonal abilities to collaborate with internal teams, clients, vendors, and subcontractors
  • Ability to work under pressure and meet tight deadlines in a fast-paced, dynamic environment
  • Familiarity with the local construction market and regulations is advantageous
  • Highly motivated team player
  • Practical knowledge of construction (new & renovation)

Annual Salary Range: $135,000 - $180,000
