This role combines technical estimating, bid strategy, risk management, subcontractor engagement, and team leadership.
Essential Functions and Conditions:
- Prepare complete, accurate, and supportable estimates and assigned work products on time.
- Review and evaluate project plans, addenda, bid forms, alternates, allowances, owner requirements, and specifications to identify scope, pricing, and schedule impacts.
- Prepare accurate quantity takeoffs and related pricing.
- Knowledge and understanding of unit costs and production rates for self-performed tasks (concrete and carpentry).
- Generate scopes and bid packages for all trades
- Participate in pre-bid meetings, job walks, scope reviews, bid-day activities, presentations, and post-bid clarifications.
- Identify scope gaps, generate clear RFIs, and identify pricing risks and communicate them to the Senior or Chief Estimator.
- Able to generate RFIs
- Prepare preliminary project schedules for bidding purposes.
- Assist in preparation of schedule and logistics plans for RFP technical proposals.
- Support field management teams in preparation for presentations
- Ability to work with schematic and design development documents in design-build pursuits.
- Ability to work independently and as part of a team.
- Actively engage in subcontractor bid solicitation process
- Obtain bids from vendors and subcontractors for specified materials, products, and scopes of work, identifying qualified subcontractors.
- Analyze subcontractor proposals for scope and price.
- Attend project site pre-bid meetings and site tours.
- Prepare project bid summaries including trades and scopes
Requirements:
- At least (3) years of construction estimating experience; public works experience strongly preferred.
- Strong verbal, written, leadership, negotiation, and communication skills.
- Proficiency with estimating, ProEst (digital takeoff), Building Connected, Bluebeam, scheduling, spreadsheet, bid-management software.
- Preconstruction and alternative delivery method experience preferred
- Ability to understand and comprehend complete estimates/projects preferably in the $20 million to $100 million range
