The Estimator III is a senior-level professional who leads the project and collaborates with other estimators, suppliers, and customers to complete estimates. With minimal guidance and direction, the Estimator III provides overall support for either several medium-sized projects or 1 large project.
WHAT YOU’LL DO:Establish project objectives, procedures, and deliverables. Prepare the estimate from quantity take-off on the project and complete the estimate to computer printout.
Identify parts of the project that may be key to making a competitive estimate and evaluate possible areas for potential value engineering cost savings.
Review proposal specifications, drawings, and attend pre-bid meetings to determine the scope of work and required contents of the estimate.
Provide guidance to personnel preparing the completion matrix discipline for assigned bids.
Ensure all working documents and data are maintained to back-up estimate figures.
Develop labor productivity rate and (installation unit costs where applicable) based on projected site conditions and historical data.
Prepare a comprehensive list of materials and equipment required for the estimate, ensuring clarity and detail in order to facilitate accurate quotes from suppliers. This includes specifying quantities, types, and any relevant specifications or standards that need to be met.
Identify qualified suppliers/subcontractors and be responsible for soliciting quotes. Review quotes for completeness and conformance with plans and specs.
Responsible for the timely completion of all client-required documents.
Prepare scope letter inclusions, exclusions, and clarifications for estimates.
Responsible for providing the Chief Estimator with a detailed review of the scope, technical requirements, and pricing for the estimated bid package.
After the successful bid at project turnover, meet with the project management team to fully explain the job scope, potential areas of attention, and other aspects for the successful transition of the project.
Maintain files of all working documents to back-up estimate figures and update the Rosendin-approved estimating program.
The duties and responsibilities are intended to describe the general nature and scope of work being performed by this position. This is not a complete listing and other duties will be assigned based on the position’s role within the business unit.
Advanced knowledge of the assigned discipline, construction technology, estimating techniques, and cost control. Minimum supervision will be required with assigned tasks.
Read and interpret blueprints and/or engineering design drawings
Perform arithmetic calculations required for estimating
Estimate all types of projects and coordinate and supervise group work efforts essential
Mentor and assist with the development of Estimators
Identify and meet customers’ needs expectations and requirements
Proficient in using a computer and Microsoft Office (, Outlook, Word, Excel, etc.)
Prioritize and manage multiple tasks, changing priorities as necessary
Work under time pressure and adapt to changing requirements with a positive attitude
Oral and written communication skills as required for the position
Self-motivated and can work independently and as part of a team
Interact effectively and professionally with all levels of employees, both management and staff alike, vendors, clients, and others
Bachelor’s degree in Construction Management, Engineering or a related field
Minimum 5 years’ estimating or other relevant experience in closing construction estimates
Advanced Experience in Accubid estimating software, LiveCount Cloud, and Bluebeam software preferred
Can be a combination of education, training, and relevant experience
Up to 10%
General work environment – sitting for long periods, standing, walking, typing, carrying, pushing, bending. Work is conducted primarily indoors with varying environmental conditions such as fluorescent lighting and air conditioning
Noise level is usually low to medium; it can be loud on the jobsite.
Occasional lifting of up to 30 lbs.
