Overview
The Lemartec Estimator II position is an intermediate-level role responsible for independently performing estimating and pre-construction, specializing in Mechanical/Electrical/Plumbing for assigned scopes of work. This position builds upon foundational estimating skills and requires a working knowledge of construction means and methods, subcontractor coordination, and cost analysis. The MEP Estimator II contributes to bid strategy, value engineering, and cross-functional collaboration, and mentors Estimator I team members as appropriate.
Responsibilities
- Independently create, review, and evaluate bid documents, including drawings, specifications, scopes of work, and reports affecting construction costs.
- Prepare complete quantity takeoffs and develop accurate cost estimates for assigned trades or project components.
- Solicit, evaluate, and level subcontractor and supplier bids.
- Coordinate directly with subcontractors, suppliers, architects, and engineers to clarify scope and resolve discrepancies.
- Actively participate in value engineering efforts and provide cost-saving recommendations.
- Maintain and manage RFIs, bid logs, and estimating documentation.
- Collaborate with project management and construction teams to ensure alignment on scope.
- Assist with subcontractor pre-qualification and performance feedback.
- Support bid reviews and presentations with the Chief Estimator.
- Ensure compliance with company policies, procedures, and internal controls.
Qualifications
Work Experience and Education- Minimum 2 years' experience in estimating/pre-construction.
- Bachelor's degree in construction management or related field preferred.
Knowledge, Skills, and Abilities - Experience and knowledge of mechanical/electrical/plumbing commercial/industrial construction industry practices, materials, and methods involved, and the purchasing of services and supplies
- Must be proficient with computers, including Microsoft Word, Excel, PowerPoint, Outlook, etc.
- Must be proficient in internet search techniques and online research.
- Strong writing & communication skills in English.
- Detail-oriented and highly organized.
- Understanding of construction and design.
- Ability to read and understand building plans, scopes of work, specifications, and other construction documents.
- Ability to manage multiple projects at the same time.
- Ability to work independently or as a member of a team.
- Creative and Innovative - must be a "think out-of-the-box" problem solver.
