Full Job Description
McKee utility Contractors is now hiring an Equipment Maintenance Manager!

Oversees the maintenance, repair, and lifecycle management of a construction fleet (excavators, dozers, loaders, cranes, graders, dump trucks, compactors, etc.) to maximize uptime and safety across job sites.

  • Develop and enforce preventive maintenance programs for heavy equipment (engine, hydraulic, undercarriage, electrical systems) based on manufacturer specs and usage hours
  • Manage a team of heavy equipment mechanics/technicians, including field service crews dispatched to job sites
  • Coordinate emergency repairs and breakdowns on active job sites to minimize project delays
  • Oversee fleet inventory - owned, leased, and rented equipment - and make repair-vs-replace decisions
  • Manage relationships with OEM dealers (Caterpillar, John Deere, Komatsu, Volvo, etc.) and parts suppliers
  • Track maintenance costs, equipment utilization, and downtime using fleet/CMMS software (e.g., Fleetio, HCSS, B2W, Trackunit)
  • Ensure DOT compliance for road-legal equipment and OSHA compliance for job site safety
  • Manage equipment inspections (daily operator checks, annual/DOT inspections, crane certifications)
  • Oversee shop and mobile service truck operations, tooling, and welding/fabrication capabilities
  • Plan and manage warranty claims
  • Coordinate equipment transport/logistics between job sites
  • Train operators and technicians on equipment-specific maintenance and safe operation
  • Manage fuel, fluids, and environmental compliance (spill prevention, used oil disposal)


Work Experience and Education
  • 5-10+ years of experience in heavy equipment maintenance, with supervisory experience
  • Hands-on knowledge of diesel engines, hydraulics, undercarriage systems, and heavy equipment electrical/electronic systems
  • Experience with OEM diagnostic software (Cat ET, John Deere Service Advisor, etc.)
  • Knowledge of DOT and OSHA regulations relevant to construction equipment
  • Experience managing field service operations across multiple/remote job sites
  • CMMS/fleet management software proficiency
  • Budgeting and vendor negotiation skills
  • Valid driver's license

Work Environment & Physical Requirements
  • Ability to lift 40+ lbs regularly
  • Ability to stand, bend, kneel, and work outdoors in various weather conditions
  • Comfortable working around heavy machinery and in a fast-paced environment
