Responsibilities

  • Lead equipment engineering activities by third-party firms to ensure quality deliverables.
  • Partner with Procurement to develop RFQs and conduct technical evaluations of vendors.
  • Oversee supplier quality through shop visits and Factory Acceptance Testing (FAT).
  • Coordinate equipment installation strategies and logistics with Construction Management.
  • Maintain engineering action, issue, and risk registers, addressing technical risks proactively.

Full Job Description
The Equipment Engineer Lead serves as the onsite Equipment Lead Engineer for Project Ascent at Tippecanoe and reports directly to the Engineering Manager. This role is accountable for the coordination and integration of $100 million dollars worth of process equipment in close collaboration with the Process Design team. RESPONSIBILITIES • Serve as the primary onsite liaison between Process Design and Equipment Engineering, ensuring alignment of equipment scope, technical assumptions, and engineering deliverables. • Translate process design documentation-including PFDs, P&IDs, and heat and material balances-into detailed equipment specifications, execution packages, and clearly defined battery limits and interface responsibilities. • Lead equipment engineering activities performed by third-party engineering firms and consultants, ensuring deliverables meet project requirements, schedules, and quality expectations. • Partner with Procurement to develop equipment RFQs, conduct technical bid evaluations, resolve vendor clarifications, and coordinate vendor documentation throughout the procurement process. • Oversee supplier quality activities by conducting shop visits, supporting Factory Acceptance Testing (FAT), validating equipment design and fabrication, and resolving technical deviations. • Coordinate equipment layouts, constructability reviews, installation strategies, lifting plans, transportation logistics, and tie-in activities with Construction Management to support efficient field execution. • Maintain equipment engineering action, issue, and risk registers while proactively identifying technical risks, resolving interface issues, and escalating critical concerns to project leadership. • Provide technical leadership during construction, mechanical completion, and project turnover while supporting project controls through engineering status updates, cost and schedule alignment, gate reviews, and monthly reporting. REQUIREMENTS • Bachelor's degree in Mechanical, Chemical, Process, or a related Engineering discipline required. • 15+ years of experience in equipment engineering, process equipment, or project engineering supporting large capital projects within chemical, industrial, or manufacturing environments required. • Proven experience coordinating equipment scope and technical deliverables with Process Engineering teams and multidisciplinary engineering organizations. • Demonstrated success working with international or distributed engineering teams while effectively coordinating engineering consultants, contractors, vendors, and OEMs. • Strong knowledge of process equipment including reactors, pressure vessels, pumps, centrifuges, dryers, packaged utility systems, and related industrial equipment. • Experience developing equipment specifications, scopes of work, technical documentation, vendor evaluations, and equipment procurement packages. • Familiarity with Factory Acceptance Testing (FAT), vendor document management, constructability reviews, mechanical completion, and field execution support. • Excellent communication, organization, facilitation, and stakeholder management skills, with the ability to negotiate technical issues, resolve conflicts, and align project execution with cost, schedule, GMP, and ISPE Baseline Guide requirements.
