Job Duties

The Division of Population Health Data (DPHD) is responsible for analytic and outreach services within the Office of Family Health Services (OFHS), including epidemiological activities regarding the collection, monitoring, analysis and interpretation of data, and program evaluation regarding programmatic data- informed decision-making and needs assessment activities. The DPHD seeks a qualified candidate to serve as a Stroke Epidemiologist. The position is responsible for carrying out a broad and moderately complex range of investigative and analytical epidemiologic activities in an assigned district or within a statewide program area. As a member of the Prevention & Health Promotion (PHP) Epidemiology Unit, this position supports the stroke prevention program, including surveillance and evaluation of a CDC funded project. This position will analyze additional data sources that may inform stroke programs, including, but not limited to, Vital Records, the All Payers Claim Database (APCD), Electronic Surveillance System for the Early Notification of Community-based Epidemics (ESSENCE), National Emergency Medical Services Information System (NEMSIS), and Inpatient Hospitalization data. In addition, this position will participate in workgroups, policy initiatives, and data modernization efforts. This position will work under the supervision of the Chronic Disease Senior Epidemiologist.

This is a restricted position, which is solely funded by the Coverdell grant for one year for the period ending 6/29/2027.The availability of funding is scheduled for review annually and periodically thereafter. Continued employment is contingent on the continued availability of funds.

Minimum Qualifications
• Considerable knowledge of the cause, transmission, treatment, and prevention of non- communicable diseases and other conditions of public health importance.
• Considerable knowledge of federal and state laws, regulations, and policies regarding public health and the reporting and control of disease.
• Working knowledge of biostatistics, analysis and interpretation of data, and data management techniques.
• Demonstrated ability to develop program goals and objectives and to evaluate program effectiveness.
• Demonstrated ability to establish and maintain effective working relationships.
• Demonstrated ability to collect, quality assure, analyze, interpret, and present statistical data.
• Demonstrated ability to communicate effectively orally and in writing with health care professionals and the general public.
• Considerable experience in epidemiology, public health, or a related area.
• Basic knowledge and proficiency utilizing statistical software packages.

Additional Considerations
• Training or experience in public health, epidemiology or biostatistics
• Experience with database management systems, especially those used to manage population-based disease data or other conditions of public health significance.
• Experience in Chronic disease epidemiology
