Full Job Description
This position under minimal supervision plans and assists with hazardous waste sorting, segregation, and packaging, universal waste management, chemical management, and abatement materials management (e.g., asbestos, lead, etc.). In addition, work with onsite waste generators/owners to ensure they remain compliant with DOE, EPA, and Laboratory policies, procedures, and guidelines. Able to learn and become proficient with the Waste Management Upgrade application to effectively and efficiently enter requisition information to facilitate pickup and meet RCRA part B storage requirements in Waste Management operated storage facilities. Other roles and responsibilities not listed below may be assigned at the discretion of management.

Roles and Responsibilities
  • Learn and become efficient and proficient using the WMS-U application.
  • Provide technical support to onsite waste generators/owners and projects for accurate and complete characterization of their wastes.
  • Develop waste sampling plans, waste determinations and interpret the analytical results to determine hazardous and Department of Transportation (DOT) classifications.
  • Comprehensive training and understanding of regulations and standards applicable to waste management and transportation (e.g., CERCLA, RCRA, TSCA, DOT, EPA, DOE Orders, TSDF Waste Acceptance Criteria).
  • Extensive knowledge of waste management processes and requirements.
  • Working knowledge of hazardous waste characterization and management.
  • Efficient in Microsoft Office (Word, Excel and PowerPoint).
  • Assisting the waste shipper in conducting shipments to various TSDF's (Clean Harbors, Tradebe, Stericycle, etc.).
  • Write detailed work instruction documents to help facilitate processing and packaging operations to field personnel.
  • Identifies waste streams for segregation by waste profile.
  • Ensures Waste Acceptance Criteria requirements are met for various TSDF's.
  • Ensure waste packages contain no prohibited items per waste profile and TSDF requirements.

Position Requirements
  • Bachelor's degree in science or engineering, or equivalent experience.
  • Two-Five years of experience in the field of waste management and/or transportation.
  • Experience must demonstrate technical competence in managing and shipping hazardous waste in compliance with applicable standards and regulations including DOE Orders, CERCLA, RCRA, TSCA, DOT and in accordance with common DOE TSDF Waste Acceptance Criteria requirements.
  • To perform the essential functions of this position successful applicants must provide proof of U.S. citizenship, which is required to comply with federal regulations and contract.


Training Requirements
  • Able to obtain DOT shipper certification, Radiation Worker I, OSHA 40-hour HAZWOPER, 5-day RCRA McCoy training seminar, and other training as required by the facility per DOE Order 426.2 required Training Implementation Matrices.

The expected hiring range for this position is $69,750.00 - $108,810.00.
