Your Opportunity

We are looking for a intermediate Project Environmental Professional from a geology, engineering, or technologist background to join our expanding Site Investigation and Remediation (SIR) team. This is a fantastic opportunity to contribute to and lead the execution of SIR field projects across Alberta and the Northwest Territories. Under the guidance of exceptional project managers, this role offers the opportunity to contribute to and collaborate with a cohesive, highly skilled team of environmental professionals.

Your Key Responsibilities
  • Promote a strong health and safety culture and actively participate in Stantec's Health and Safety Program.
  • Create and lead a positive safety culture on all projects.
  • Work with Project Managers to develop field instructions and coordinate field scopes of work with Stantec staff and subcontractors.
  • Complete SIR field tasks including but not limited to, Phase I ESA site visits, Phase II ESAs, soil description logging, soil sampling, groundwater monitoring and sampling, soil vapour sampling, aquifer conductivity testing, and elevation surveying.
  • Confidently oversee and lead SIR field activities, including but not limited to, drilling and monitoring well installation, remedial excavations, and other construction tasks.
  • Conduct environmental sampling, monitoring, construction observations, and ensure adherence to specifications through site inspections and quality assurance.
  • Provide training and mentoring to more junior staff as field lead.
  • Write technical reports including data analysis and interpretation with Alberta Tier 1 and Tier 2 Soil and Groundwater Remediation Guidelines.
  • Prepare technical reports, concept designs, construction specifications, construction drawings, bidding documents, and permit applications for approvals.
  • Collaborate with environmental scientists, planners, contractors, and other specialists to address environmental problems.

Your Capabilities and Credentials
  • Dedicated to working safely within established procedures and protocols.
  • Adaptability, organization, critical thinking, self-motivation, a keen willingness to learn, a love of the outdoors, attention to detail, succinct writing ability, and ability to multitask.
  • Ability to exercise independent judgment to analyze issues, interpret information, and select methods and solutions to resolve problems.
  • Familiar with environmental laws, regulations, and compliance standards.
  • Strong communication skills and the ability to identify issues in the field while working with senior staff to develop solutions.
  • Proficiency with standard productivity software including all MSOffice products
  • Additional skills such as current First Aid training, WHMIS, H2S Alive, UTV operator training, water and soils sampling, mechanical aptitude and experience in the field of Environmental Science or Engineering are assets but are not required.
  • Able to obtain federal reliability security clearance.
  • Passion for working in an outdoor environment.
  • Able to travel to remote locations via air or ground transportation and work up to 12 hours per day.
  • Able to travel and mobilize to sites on minimal notice.
  • Able to work 70 - 85% in the field during peak field season, including out of town work and overnight stays in hotels or a camp setting

Education and Experience
  • Bachelor's degree or diploma in environmental engineering, geology, hydrogeology, environmental science, or related field.
  • Minimum of five (5) years executing field work related to soil, groundwater, and/or soil vapor investigations.
  • Previous leadership experience in the field is a requirement
  • Prior experience in engineering or environmental consulting is an asset

This position will involve a combination of field and office work. Typical office environment working with computers and remaining sedentary for long periods. Fieldwork may include travel (road or air) and exposure to the elements including inclement weather. Evening and weekend work may be required. Ability to lift and move items and equipment up to 50 lbs.
