JOB DESCRIPTION

Lead AutoZone's environmental compliance programs across more than 7,000 stores, 14 distribution centers, and corporate operations. Develop, implement, and continuously improve environmental policies, procedures, training, and compliance programs that ensure adherence to applicable federal, state, and local environmental regulations. Serve as the company's environmental compliance subject matter expert by providing guidance to operational and corporate teams, managing environmental risk, supporting regulatory interactions, overseeing environmental vendors and programs, and leading a team of environmental professionals responsible for enterprise environmental compliance activities.


JOB RESPONSIBILITIES
  • Develop, implement, and continuously improve corporate environmental policies, procedures, standards, and training programs.

  • Provide environmental compliance leadership and subject matter expertise to Operations, Supply Chain, Real Estate, Construction, Legal, Finance, and other functional teams.

  • Ensure compliance with applicable federal, state, and local environmental regulations affecting stores, distribution centers, and corporate operations.

  • Lead responses to environmental inspections, regulatory inquiries, Notices of Violation (NOVs), enforcement actions, and corrective action plans.

  • Research and interpret environmental regulations and provide practical compliance recommendations to business stakeholders.

  • Administer and continuously improve the company's Used Oil Recycling, Hazardous Waste Bucket, and other environmental compliance programs.

  • Manage environmental incident investigations, spill response activities, remediation projects, and emergency response cleanup events.

  • Coordinate environmental permitting activities and ensure timely completion and submission of required regulatory reports and filings.

  • Conduct or oversee environmental audits, compliance assessments, and corrective action tracking.

  • Support environmental due diligence activities associated with acquisitions, property transactions, construction, and other corporate initiatives.

  • Review and summarize technical environmental reports, regulatory correspondence, and consultant findings for executive and non-technical audiences.

  • Manage environmental consultants, contractors, and service providers, including performance oversight, contract administration, invoice review, and cost control.

  • Partner with Finance to manage environmental program expenditures and identify opportunities to reduce operating costs while maintaining compliance.

  • Monitor regulatory developments and emerging environmental requirements and recommend actions to mitigate compliance risks.

  • Develop environmental performance metrics and communicate compliance trends, risks, and program effectiveness to senior leadership.

  • Lead and develop a team of environmental professionals to support enterprise-wide environmental compliance objectives.

  • Bachelor's degree in Environmental Science, Environmental Engineering, Chemistry, Occupational Safety and Health, or a related field. 

  • 5+ years of environmental compliance/consulting, safety, project management experience
