Main Responsibilities:
Planning and conducting water infrastructure design, including conveyance and treatment, requiring judgment in the independent evaluation, selection and substantial adaptation and modification of standard treatment procedures and criteria.
Coordinating detailed phases of work which includes preliminary design, detailed design, construction and start-up phases of a major water conveyance and treatment plant design and modifications, or in a total design project of moderate scope.
Devising new approaches to problems encountered and coordinating various technical aspects of water infrastructure design and implementation.
Contributing to firm's technical knowledge management system by developing white papers and technical design documentation of new or special case designs, studies, etc.
Submitting technical papers for publishing in technical journals and presenting at professional society conferences.
Serving as a technical mentor to junior staff by: reviewing work performed by entry level staff per CDM Smith QA/QC requirements; performing peer review of the work of junior engineers/scientists or technicians and providing technical feedback; and providing guidance on overall objectives, critical issues, and new concepts in support of various projects.
Collaborating with sales staff to develop proposals in response to current and potential client requests for proposal (RFPs) with particular attention to technical scope and for adherence to firm, industry, state, local and federal regulations and best practices.
Meeting with current and potential future clients to review their current and future project needs.
Assisting project managers and helping to establish key project milestones and monitoring budgets to assess profitability.
Serving as subject matter expert on various projects including but not limited to: water treatment plant design, pump station design, and/or water conveyance design, and the preparation of reports, plans, and specifications in support of such projects.
Providing Engineering Services during Construction including shop drawing review, contractor payment application review, RFI response, and record documents preparation.
Minimum Qualifications
Bachelor's degree in Civil, Environmental or Chemical Engineering or related discipline.
Professional engineering (PE) license.
7 years of related experience.
Domestic and/or international travel may be required. The frequency of travel is contingent on specific duties, responsibilities, and the essential functions of the position, which may vary depending on workload and project demands.
Equivalent additional directly related experience will be considered in lieu of a degree.
Skills and Abilities
Expert Knowledge of computer assisted design and drafting (CADD) 3D and 4D software and practices.
Expert Knowledge of engineer principles of design.
Expert Knowledge of Microsoft business software (excel, word, etc.).
Excellent verbal and written communications skills.
Expert knowledge of federal, state and local regulations.
