EC Inspector III Salary: $63.04 - $76.62 Hourly | $131,120.70 - $159,378.13 Annually

In this role, you'll conduct field inspections, issue permits, investigate pollution sources, and enforce environmental standards at commercial and industrial facilities. You'll serve as a knowledgeable and professional representative of the District - helping reduce pollution at the source and safeguard our wastewater system.

Depending on your level, some of the typical responsibilities you will work on include, but are not limited to:
  • Inspect industrial and commercial facilities for compliance with pretreatment, stormwater, and pollution prevention regulations.
  • Issue wastewater discharge permits and review compliance documentation.
  • Collect samples and evaluate discharge data.
  • Investigate and respond to illegal discharges or violations.
  • Prepare detailed reports and participate in enforcement actions.
  • Represent the District in meetings with businesses, regulators, and the public.
  • Mentor and train junior inspectors.

Qualifications
What We're Looking For

EC Inspector II
  • Education: A two-year degree or equivalent coursework in environmental science, chemistry, biology, or related field.
  • Experience: One year of experience in one of the following areas or their equivalent as a Wastewater Treatment Plant Operator, Laboratory Analyst in a Wastewater Treatment Plant, Facility Technician in sampling, inspecting, enforcing, or chemical testing relating to environmental control.
  • Licenses, Certificates, or Credentials:
    • Valid California Class C driver's license with a satisfactory driving record and insurable by the District.
    • CWEA Grade I Environmental Compliance Inspector Certificate (or ability to obtain within 24 months).

EC Inspector III
  • Education: A two-year degree or equivalent coursework in environmental science, chemistry, biology, or related field.
  • Experience: Two years of experience as an Environmental Compliance Inspector II at the District or its equivalent.
  • Licenses, Certificates, or Credentials:
    • Valid California Class C driver's license with a satisfactory driving record and insurable by the District.
    • CWEA Grade II Environmental Compliance Inspector Certificate (or ability to obtain within 24 months).

Both the EC II and III should have or demonstrate the following:
  • Strong knowledge of relevant federal, state, and local environmental regulations.
  • Experience collecting and analyzing water or wastewater samples.
  • Excellent communication and interpersonal skills.
  • Must be physically capable of performing critical duties, including climbing ladders and lifting 50 pounds. A willingness to work in adverse weather conditions, complete overtime as required, and use respiratory protection equipment is also essential.
