Environmental and Social (E&S) Sector Technical Advisor

Job Description
CB is recruiting an Environmental and Social (E&S) Sector Technical Advisor who will be staffed to support on investment and monitoring activities for projects in the Key Sectors of Oil & Gas, Critical Minerals, and Heavy Infrastructure (e.g., refineries, tankers, and related facilities), as well as provide support to colleagues working on projects in the Key Sectors. The required technical support may include but is not limited to:
  • Review and assess project documentation for compliance with applicable E&S standards
  • Identify E&S risks and gaps related to projects and recommend appropriate mitigation measures
  • Support screening, due diligence, monitoring, and clearance activities
  • Provide subject-matter expertise on Key Sector specialized or thematic E&S issues
  • Support internal capacity building through training materials and Standard Operating Procedures (SOP) development, as needed.

Requirements
  • 10+ years of relevant E&S experience with a strong focus in the Key Sectors of Oil & Gas and/or Critical Minerals and/or Heavy Infrastructure, including on-the-ground work in emerging markets
  • Deep technical understanding of key E&S risks associated with the Key Sectors (including pollution prevention and control, noise and air emissions, emergency preparedness and response, among others)
  • Demonstrated experience applying international lender standards, including the IFC Performance Standards (IFC PS), to complex projects
  • Experience developing and/or reviewing Environmental and Social Impact Assessments (ESIAs) and associated management plans (e.g., ESMPs), including for complex industrial projects
  • Experience conducting E&S due diligence and compliance monitoring for international lenders and Development Finance Institutions / Multilateral Development Banks (DFIs/MDBs), including site visits and preparation of lender-facing reports
  • Ability to translate complex technical subjects into clear, accessible communications for diverse audiences
  • A collaborative approach to working with teams, clients and other stakeholders
