GFT is seeking a motivated Entry Level Mechanical Engineer to join our Hydropower team in Roseville, CA. This position follows a hybrid work format, requiring a minimum 3 days of onsite attendance per week.

 

Joining the Power Generation team at GFT means contributing to innovative solutions for power generation, water conveyance, and upgrading aging hydropower infrastructure throughout California and the nation. Our team excels in Powerhouse mechanical systems, Turbine auxiliary systems, Hydro Governors, water conveyance large gates and valves, systems modernization & optimization, troubleshooting, and condition assessments. With a focus on integrating technology, sustainability, and compliance, we consider each Powerhouse and water conveyance structure a chance to innovate and optimize to improve our infrastructure and the reliability of the resources it provides to the public. hydropower projects here.  

 

What you’ll be challenged to do:

The Entry-Level Mechanical Engineer supports the design, evaluation, and rehabilitation of Powerhouse and Dam mechanicals systems such as Hydro Generators, Turbine assemblies, Governors, hydro bearings, large butterfly valves, tainter/radial gates, fixed-cone valves, hoists, hydraulic power units, and control systems. They perform 2D and 3D CAD modeling, preliminary finite element analysis (FEA), assist with field reconnaissance and data collection, and prepare technical documents including reports, specifications, and cost estimates. The role also includes contributing to proposal efforts and collaborating with clients to help deliver successful project outcomes.In this capacity, the successful candidate will be responsible for the following: 

  • Assist in the design, evaluation, and rehabilitation of Hydropower and Dam mechanical systems such as hydro generators, Turbine assemblies, Governors, large gates and valves, hydraulic oil systems, and process piping.
  • Prepare technical reports, specifications, cost estimates, and plan details for engineering projects.
  • Participate in field reconnaissance and collect field data, including performing field tests and measurements.
  • Support proposal teams and regularly interface with clients to deliver project outcomes.

What you'll bring to our firm:

  • Bachelor’s degree in Mechanical Engineering from an ABET-accredited program.
  • 0-3 years of experience in mechanical, hydropower or hydraulic structures engineering.
  • Demonstrated interest in power generation, infrastructure refurbishment and upgrades, water resources, hydraulic structures, hydraulic process piping, and computer aided drafting (2D & 3D).
  • Basic proficiency with 2D & 3D CADD such as: Autodesk Inventor, AutoCAD, Civil 3D.
  • Proficiency in MS Office Suite (Excel, Word, PowerPoint, Outlook).
  • Strong organizational, written, and verbal communication skills.
  • Ability to work in a team environment, self-starter, demonstrated organization skills, team player, and willingness to learn.  

 

What we prefer you bring:

  • Passed the Fundamentals of Engineering (FE) exam.
  • Working experience with 2D & 3D CADD.
  • Prior applied experience with finite element analysis (FEA) for mechanism and assembly design.
  • Familiarity with mechanical design associated with processes within P&ID Drawings.
  • Familiarity with large gates and valves associated with water conveyance features at Dams and Powerhouses.
  • Familiarity with operating & maintaining oil systems and water systems associated with industrial plant process piping or auxiliary systems. 
Compensation:The salary range for this position is $80,000 - $100,000. Salary is dependent upon experience and geographic location.
