Compensation and Benefits

Salary Range: $93,267.00 - $116,584.00 (commensurate with experience)

The Role

Job Title: Enterprise Risk Manager

Location: Hybrid option available - weekly in office expectation at one of our administration locations (Strathroy, Sarnia, Chatham).

Job Function:

The Enterprise Risk Manager manages the operation and continued development of Mainstreet Credit Union's enterprise risk management function.

Reporting to the Director of Risk and Governance, this role leads enterprise risk reporting, operational risk management, third-party risk management, model risk oversight, risk appetite monitoring, and risk assessments for material initiatives and changes.

The Manager works across the organization to ensure material risks are identified, assessed, documented, monitored, and escalated appropriately. Business units remain responsible for owning risks and controls within their areas. This role provides second-line coordination, challenge, oversight, and reporting.

The Manager is expected to be a practical working leader who can balance program development, team leadership, and day-to-day execution.

Major Duties and Responsibilities:

Enterprise Risk Management

  • Lead the quarterly enterprise risk cycle, including risk inputs, stakeholder discussions, reporting, action tracking, and follow-up.
  • Lead preparation of enterprise risk reporting for Executive Leadership, the Audit and Risk Committee, and the Board.
  • Maintain risk registers, dashboards, workplans, and supporting documentation.


Risk Appetite and ICAAP Support

  • Monitor and report on risk appetite metrics, KRIs, tolerances, and emerging risk themes.
  • Identify areas where risk may be approaching or exceeding appetite and escalate.
  • Support linkage between enterprise risk reporting, ICAAP, capital planning, and stress testing.


Operational, Third-Party, and Model Risk

  • Lead proportionate operational risk, third-party risk, and model risk activities.
  • Document, assess, monitor, and escalate material risks, dependencies, incidents, and action items.
  • Work with business owners and subject matter experts to ensure risks are understood and appropriately managed.


Risk in Change

  • Support risk assessments for strategic initiatives, new products, major projects, and material operational changes.
  • Ensure key risks, assumptions, mitigants, and follow-up actions are documented and tracked.


Reporting, Documentation, and Regulatory Support

  • Maintain clear, organized, and traceable risk documentation.
  • Support policy, procedure, evidence, audit, and regulatory review requirements.
  • Promote practical documentation standards that support accountability without unnecessary process.
  • Leads fraud, anti-money laundering and privacy activities by acting as the CAMLO and Privacy Officer.


Leadership Responsibilities

  • Provide day-to-day leadership, coaching, work allocation, and development of Risk Specialists.
  • Build cross-training and vacation coverage across portfolios.
  • Promote a practical, collaborative, and proportionate approach to risk management across the credit union.


Qualifications:

  • Minimum five years of experience in enterprise risk management, operational risk, compliance, audit, financial services, or related roles.
  • Post-secondary education in Business, Finance, Risk Management, Accounting, Compliance, or a related field, or equivalent experience.
  • Experience in a financial institution, credit union, or regulated environment preferred.
  • Risk, compliance, audit, or related designation considered an asset.


Knowledge and Skills:

  • Strong understanding of enterprise risk management and the Three Lines of Defense model.
  • Practical knowledge of risk appetite, operational risk, third-party risk, model risk, and regulatory expectations.
  • Strong analytical, writing, facilitation, and reporting skills.
  • Ability to synthesize complex information into clear, practical recommendations.
  • Strong organization, judgement, and ability to work collaboratively across departments.
  • Proficiency with Microsoft Office, Teams, SharePoint, and risk/reporting tools.


Working Conditions:

  • Travel to branches and administrative offices may be required. Attendance at occasional evening meetings may be required.
