Position Summary

This role is to advance customer service in the preparation and construction of work orders to build a smarter energy future for new Residential and mixed-use developments.The successful candidate has the desire, skills, and abilities to make a difference in the growth and improvement of the electrical distribution system to energize the communities we serve.The Engineering Technologist III position is the third level of the non-Engineer degreed technical support role job classification. Engineering Technologist III provide technical expertise to solve more complex problems and leadership skills to provide oversight and direction of work in a specific area of expertise, with limited supervision. Incumbents are expected to develop advanced skills and the ability to work with a high degree of independence.
Responsibilities
• Work within a team environment and collaborates across multiple work groups to accomplish common goals
• Applies deep technical expertise in the identification, analysis and resolution of problems in area of expertise including but not limited to electrical distribution and other utility systems
• Independently prepares thorough and accurate work orders, technical reports, correspondence, documentation, electrical and mechanical calculations and sketches
• Communicates frequently and consistently with customers both internal and external to ensure satisfaction
• Ensures accomplishment of business goals and objectives that follow established processes through effective planning, organizing, estimating, scheduling, and monitoring of work activities
• Applies advancing level knowledge in preparing thorough and accurate technical reports, correspondence, documentation, calculations and sketches
• Conducts engineering and related studies and performs field design work to prepare work orders for construction of the distribution system
• Interprets conceptual plans to prepare work orders, provide guidance on roadway permitting and easements, and apply CIAC billing

• Strives to continually develop, transform and improve job-related, technical and professional knowledge, skills and performance
• Develops positive working relationships to effectively coordinate work activities
• Demonstrates effective verbal and written communication skills
• Maintains accurate records and files
• Supports the company's goals and represents the company positively and professionally
Required/Basic Qualifications
• Associates degree in Engineering Technology
• 4 years related work experience
• In lieu of Associates degree(s) AND 4 year(s) related work experience listed above, High School/GED AND 6 year(s) related work experience
Desired Qualifications
• Bachelors degree in Engineering Technology or
• Bachelors degree in Engineering or
• Associates degree in Engineering Technology
• In addition to desired degree, 2 years related work experience

Additional Preferred Qualifications
  • Exceptional written and oral communication skills.
  • Experience in the utility industry.
  • Able to effectively apply principles of project management.
  • Acts with a sense of urgency
  • Manages multiple projects simultaneously


Working Conditions
  • Hybrid Mobility Classification- Work will be performed from both remote and onsite locations after the onboarding period. However, hybrid employees should live within a reasonable commute to their designated Duke Energy facility.
  • Work will be performed both in an office setting and in a field setting


Specific Requirements
  • Demonstrated ability to work with a variety of individuals from various socio-economic, cultural and ethnic backgrounds.
  • Good written and oral communication skills.
  • Either 2+ years of relevant industry experience coupled with a Bachelor of Science in Engineering or Engineering Technology, or 4+ years of experience and Associate Degree in Engineering or Engineering Technology, or 6+ years equivalent experience without a degree
